Not for nothing but if frank trigg almost got a rear naked choke on Hughes twice in two separate fights, theres some obvious holes there and even though i am not a gracie fan, I know hes forgotten more submission holds than a guy like trigg could ever learn. That and taking into account that gracie has fought and beaten heavyweights (before the weight class structure was set up) shows he knows how to nullify any strength advantage in favor of hughes.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Don't forget Gracie liked to fight a slow and almost boring pace, taking his sweet time. If he comes in with the same game plan he'll be forced to stand up again, and again, and again, and again. Which it's a great ruling, makes the fights more exciting, just it's not a great thing for Gracie. I personally think Royce deserves to be pounded for not being a true mixed martial artist and learning how to strike - great at jujitsu but he's about as 1 dimensional as Jeff Lacey.

I think Hughes will take it only because of the round system.

But I sure hope Gracie chokes his ass out.

Don't like Hughes but I actually find Royce more irritating. Hope Matt wins (hard for me to say that) and I think he will.

I think that a lot of MMA fighters are figuring out how to counter Brazilian JJ.

CC to both raleights and Young gun. I forgot about the stand up rule and didnt really take into account the rounds. Thinking back, i think there was a stalemate with gracie and a lot of his opponents to the point where some of the fighters made mistakes just to break the monotony of the gracie gaurd and falling asleep on top of another guy in the missionary position..

How big is Gracie? He has fought HW's before but UFC was alot different then, what are the rules now regarding weighing in.. Will they both have to make weight at 170 or w/e Hughes fights at?

I think it may be a catch weight, Gracie is like 6'1 and weighs 180-190, he's bigger than Hughes obviously with him being 5'9 170. Royce really needs to lose this fight, since he quit competing in UFC before mma evolved. People still believe you can take Gracie Jujitsu and still defeat any opponent anywhere anytime. Jujitsu isn't the only tool and if you study Pride Fighting, it's clearly not the most dominant. The people who seem to be ruling mixed martial arts at the moment are strikers with great takedown defenses like Vanderlei Silva, Quinton Jackson, Chuck Liddell, Tim Sylvia, Mirko Crocop, Fedor Emalienko (of course Fedor is a fuckin submission magician but still, he prefers striking). Theres a reason Bas Rutten and Frank Shamrock challenged Rickson Gracie and never got a reply. Rickson knows his 400-0 record wouldn't stay intact - probably why he never fought Kazushi Sakuraba either

Hughes is a tough f**ker. Gracie is a master, but I think Hughes has too much energy and will at this point in time. Chuck Lidell would probably kill Gracie in the ring.

Gracie was never the same after the second Shamrock fight. He didn't fight for 5 years and has only gotten a submission against Aki Bono(Sumo Wrestler) who's lost everytime out. Royce isn't the same Gracie of the past. This is set up to be another Shamrock Ortiz. I am pulling for Gracie despite that.

I met Gracie a year ago at king of the cage in Edmonton. So Im a gracie fan, I put 50$ on him. I hate when people count someone out because of age. He's a champion at heart. I would call him a under dog in this one though, my cash is still on him out of respect.

Shamrock should have got a win for that fight. I loved seeing Shamrock headbutt him to the face. Classic moment! Gracie beat The big a** wrestler, {can't remember his name}, after the second Shamrock fight. That dude was tough.
