    Default Winky

    Just curious to see what some opinions are. Alot of talk about Hearns and SRL lately, along with BHOP. How would Winky or BHOP fair against the light middies, and middies of the late 70s-80s?{Duran, Hagler,Hearns,etc}

    Both are smart fighters, with good defense. Both have good chins. I know alot of people think BHOP is overrated, but I think him and Winky would have faired pretty good. Especially Winkster.

    Duran was no middleweight.. Hearns or SRL vs Hopkins would be great fights imo.. Both were naturally smaller but better p4p guys.

    I agree that Duran didn't belong at Middle, but I don't think Oscar does either. I think Duran could hold his own at 154.

    What about Hagler? Give either of them a shot?

    I think Hopkins would have done really well against any of the 80's heavywieghts, and probably beaten all of them except MAYBE Leonard simply because of his speed. I think prime Leonard could somebody with great quickness and a jab(Taylor or Hearns), and he is big and strong enough, and skilled enough to come out on top of Hagler. Winky I think would have beaten all them except maybe Hagler, but I'm not sure we'll see how strong Winky is for a middleweight when he fights the strong Taylor in July because if Winky is strong enough his powerful jab, and ability to use it against conventional fighters would have been too much for the 80 fighters.

    I think both would have faired well, but Hagler beats both, and Taylor too. All would be close IMO.But, I give the edge to Marvin.

    I think Hagler is the best boxer ever to put on a glove behind Tyson at his peak.
    Bhop and hagler would be a complete class fight. 2 strong fighters who never take a step back

    Hopkins was very methodical, always liked fighting his own pace which wasn't very fast. I've seen enough of Hagler to know he's one of the greats of all time, but what was his pace like in most of his fights? Would he of been too relentless for Bernard? Or is Hopkins perfectly capable of fighting at that pace and merely doesn't decide to?

    I think Marvin would lose to Taylor for sure, but probably beat Winky, and I would pick Hopkins prime over Hagler prime for technical reasons.

    There is no way that BHOP is overrated. The guy is a terrific boxer and even though he was a bigger man, look at how he destroyed the GOLDEN TOY. Winky would be in the SR and Hagler fights simply because of the tremendous defense.

    Marvin would lose to Taylor for sure? I can't see that at all, Taylor's jab wouldn't be able to hold him off and Taylor's got no infighting skills. He could try to tie up but that wouldn't work for long. Taylor's strong but I doubt he's stronger than Marvin who was much more fundamentally sound and skilled than Taylor.

    Also we are assuming Marvin would be at his best, not the Hagler that fought SRL or even Hearns.
