Default Who seems to be a strong contender for Fighter of the Year?

Almost half the year has gone by who do you think will be fighter of the year with the fights that have already taken place and the fights that are going to happen.

Manny Pacquio - He already did what was seemed the impossible, knocked out Erik Morales. he has a bout with Larious and maybe a rematch with either Morales or Barrera by the end of the year

Joe Calzaghe - people thought he was a fraud, a protected fighter who was aging and going to be a stepping stone for America's newest superstar, Jeff Lacy. Joe not only humiliated Lacy but displayed one of the best boxing performances ever by any fighter. Has a fight scheduled in June and is looking at Tarver as a future opponent by the end of the year.

Jermain Taylor - has a disputed win over the middleweight legend Bernard Hopkins and has Winky Wright as his next opponent.

Oscar De La Hoya - is most likely at the very end of the list of candidates, looked impressive after a 20 month layoff and most likely has to fight Mayweather to be a contender for this title.

"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya

This is the first time that by the halfway point we can already know who has it in the bag. The winner of DLH-Mayweather wins it going away.

the title suggests who "seems" to be not who is.

And like I said, too many fighters have yet to fight

From that list its Calzaghe. But it will be Wright if he can beat Taylor

Calzaghe? Please. He better not get it for beating Jeff Lacy. Now if he beats Kessler or/and moves up and beats tarver or johnson then maybe.
Step up so I can put you down

I would give it to Wladimir Klitschko. As thanks for getting rid of Chris Byrd's chumpass

I was guna suggest Wvlad Klitschko. He beat and undefeated prospect then won the world title from th elongest reigning champ in sensational style . If he can get 1 or two more wins before the year is out I think he'l be a strong candidate . He also restored a little faith in the heavyweight division .

If Pac beats Morales and Larios then he'l be a strong contender.

Joe needs another big win then this could be his year . 1 points win over an unproven American wont be enough I fear .

With another 6 months to go , theres still time for Winky , Barrera , Floyd etc to make their mark

Gotta agree, Pac-Man and Joe have the biggest potential to be fighter of the year. But if we're going on work done already this year, its Wlad by a mile for the reasons you outlined.

By far and away so far this year,Manny and if he beats Erik and Larios,I don't see anyone beating that. He stopped EM ,crushed him when no-one thought it possible and this was after he lost the first one. JC's performance was amazing but I was more amazed at the Pacman one,I SERIOUSLY did not see it coming!! Obviously there are too man fights that have yet to take place....but that's my opinion so far.

Im sorry but Oscar won against a guy who was totally exposed over 18 months ago, o way he has a case for fighter of the year just from that fight.
