Default More questions than answers for Hatton

Ricky Hatton's fight against Callazo raised more questions than answers on Saturday night.

I thought he looked a bit slow, and the snap from his punches was gone. He also got pushed around a bit by the naturally bigger Callazo but the biggest problems were caused because of the southpaw stance.

For the whole fight Hatton seemed to be tripping over Callazo's right foot and this meant he couldn't get in position to throw. His left was taken out of the game because Callazo was cleverly turning his right shoulder into Rick, so the left ended up around the shoulder and back area.

I would say that if Ricky is going to stay at 147 he will be up against it, although you will see a totally different Hatton against an Orthodox fighter. Hatton's only knockdown in his career came against a southpaw (Aemon McGee) and it is no secret that he struggles against them. For that reason alone you almost have to dis-regard this fight when considering his chances against other welters. The other main concern is the weight, at 140 Hatton is ripped, strong and fast, an awesome body puncher that can set a relentless pace and bully people around the ring for 12 rounds and take anything his opponent has got to give and I don't think even the "Pretty Boy" could live with him at that weight, but at 147 the speed and movement were diminished and the power hadn't moved up with him. He was also feeling the power from Callazo, who is not regarded as having heavy hands in that division. Ricky's heart got him through the twelfth round on Saturday and if PBF fought Rick at 147 my guess is that he would box his head off.

Stay away from Judah and go for a superfight vs. Chico or Gatti, either would be fight of the year.

Poor kid. All he wanted to do was come to the U.S. and get an easy KO to look good for his next fight. Now we dont even know if he should stay at 147 or not. I think he should go back to 140. He looked winded and was throwing a lot of arm punches by the middle rds. With a fighter who has some power, he woulda been KO'd. He's got a chin, but he was really fatigued late in the fight.

The difference between his stamina at 140 and 147 is amazing. Those extra pounds have really given him a floggin.

I agree i though Hatton kept quite busty but for his high standards he was nowhere near as busy as usual, i think 147 is not his weight at all, it takes away alot of his strenghts as a fighter, he makes 140 quite comfortably, i honestly would go for Cotto!!

After watching this fight three times this weekend...once drunk, once hung over, the other fully sober...I gotta say that the main detrations that I noticed were his stamina & ability to carry the punch.

Hatton just got a bit too disheartened for my likings once he recognized that Collazo wasn't going anywhere.

I think that Hatton can do better...but I am not sure about doing it at 147lbs...then again...this is just his first shot...maybe I'm wrong.

Honestly...this thread is pretty apt...because I did leave that fight with more questions than answers regarding Hatton.

I still believe that the fight shoulda hit a draw & Collazo should have retained his title...but money & network booty is at stake...HBO aint gonna sell out the man that they just bio-ed as the new Cinderella style Man unless he get's dropped.

    Aint no thang. in return.

The thing is...when they put so much cash into a fighter & it's a close fight, champion or not, they lean to the man that they started off backing.

In the past I've listened to the commentators catching themselves being honest & then the other corrects them in the error of their ways.

The only way that Hatton coulda lost or gotten a draw was to get knocked offa his feet. He held on in the 12th...so that didn't happen.
