Thread: Sauerland and Povetkin...

A few weeks ago i travelled with a fighter to Germany to fight on the Byrd v Klitschcko card in Mannheim . We signed a contract to box Alex Povetkin (the Olympic Superheavyweight champ from the 2004 games in Athens Greece.) The contract was to fight an 8 round heavyweight attraction for $ x amount.. We arrived in Germany on day 1 and were told that we were only allowed one specified man in our fighters corner due to some mix up, and until we kicked up such a fuss we would have had to manage like they dictated it to us. Our fighter was a previous contender at heavyweight and we were really going backwards in boxing over 8 at the very least. The hotel room was horrific and until fight day we had to sleep on tiny box beds with a man drilling outside our window for 24 hours. They then started to look very concerned at the weigh in when our man looked extremely comfortable and well conditioned and they looked almost ready to pull out due to a heart attack or something , there was a lot of whispering and then blank faces as they took the shots of each fighter. Then the funny stuff began..word had it that they wanted the fight cut from 8 to 6 to suit the Olympian.. we just thought it was just scare mongering so we just left it alone. Fight day... was just a joke..
1.. No TV monitor in our dressing room and we had no idea when we were to be boxing...
2... a tiny bucket of ice between 9 fighters for all the water, mouthguards, vaseline, cutsmans equipment etc.. until we went hunting and had to pay off a champaign bar nearby for a large box of ice..
3.. No towels , and when we did get them we had to use old used towells with blood ,sweat and spit on them..
4.. Bottled water supplied by Povetkins promoter with the seales BROKEN and the water warm !!!
5.. when the gloves arrived we had began to rub them and warm them up so the leather would be supple , then 10 mins before the fight , they were robbed by one of saurlands men, whom chose to mess us about... We had to get an HBO TV man to go get them back for thier TV fights..
6... The best one of all.. 20 minutes to fight time , with no consultation,, our heavyweight fight was cut for no reason from 8 to 6 rounds.. when we threatened to pull out they told us we would not be paid and we had no choice.. We then got some guy called Don Majeski teling us that we would be included in the superfighter bullshit tournament that is due to be held in Australia if we agreed .. ( which by the way is complete garbage and is just a hoax as you all will find out soon enough..) we eventually were hustled into the arena , and the 6 rounder was over before it had even begun.. Povetkin ran and slipped around the ring and did enough to grab a decent win before our heavyweight could even get a chance to do any good work like the 10 , 12 round fighter that he is.. Povetkin is good , but we did deserve a fighting chance and certainly were shoved around like cattle and treated with absolutely no respect what so ever.. The final day in Germany was for us to pack and be transported to the airport by Sauerland promotions drivers, but even then a Sauerland PR lady's boyfriend needed a ride and we had to take an extra cab to the airport costing over $200's .
All i can say is the Sauerland is a phoney set up and the have absolutely no respect for any fighter that is decent enough to go and box against one of thier clowns on one of Wilfreds 2 bit shows , KLitschcko and Byrd were amazing yet , they held thier own half of the promotion seperately through K2 promotions.. God bless them all .. i just hope what goes around comes around..

We lost fair and square , but i did not appreciate the way we were held to ransom to better thier mans record.. If you ever have a boxer that is offered the chance to box on a Sauerland card over seas , think again, I hope you get treated more civilized than we did.. peace ..

I don't have much to do with boxing,beside that I like to watch it on tv,but
shouldn't you bring your own stuff,like towels and water, with you...?
I mean ...,it's better then to depend on other to provide it and you don't
get any nasty surprises...no offense meant...

Yes, a little research would show that Germany is hardly ever fair or good to us no matter what the circumstance but then who in the heck wants to lug water all the way to Germany.

Nobody needs to fly in the water to Germany,we have nice drugstores with crystal clear water...
and you might even find a towel or two,there....

Well if the taxis charged $200.00 U.S. to go to a known location with a translator then it probably would have cost $500.00 to find water without translator. Maybe they could have just walked a bit down the road from the Hotel to find one of those drug stores while keeping an eye out for Sauerland cronies but then I am sure they would have had the common sence to try that.

I hear the Superfighter is going to be really cool. $20 million in prize money, fast rounds, top heavyweights competing from Melbourne. Why a hoax?

We did in fact have our own water , but they gave us extra , that was in fact cloudy and had its seales broken.. That was just one incident.. The rounds being cut was the final insult.. Ice not supplied is just not a done thing, and inside the game there aren't many promoters that dont supply bare essentials , we are remember helping them to put a show together for thier gain.

Superfighter fighters are being paid to have thier photo put on the poster..
None of them are actually going to compete , as of yet..

YOU WILL SOON SEE.. when the actial thing happens ..

1 .. who is competeing eventually...
2.. what the eventual prize cash will be...
3.. What legitimate recognition the winner will receive..

Where I'm living I see a lot of the Universium cards and they consistently include outrageoulsy bad decisions and biased reffing. It seems entirely believable that Universium would be very thorough in trying to ensure a win for theri fighters in the days and hours leading up to a fight as well as during the fight itself.
