Default Oscar De La Hoya set to retire!!!

He's set to retire tomorrow after not getting the mayweather fight. A conference call has been arranged for Wednesday and it is expected that De La Hoya will either retire or, at least, announce that he won't be fighting again for the remainder of 2006.

Eh, it's good for him he goes out on top...fighting Trinidad or Mosley again would be good

awwww HORSE SHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a horrible move for him....the PBF fight is prime and he needs to capitalize on it now......Margarito definitely has a punchers chance with PBF and the fight may never happen....I don't think he should possibly throw away the biggest selling PPV ever like this...it may never happen if thats the case.....this will be a sad day for boxing if he does announce this tomorrow....
It feels good to be back home.

Sounds like more narcissim and affectation from the Goldenboy.

He'll no doubt say he's going to quit only for a huge announcement at the last minute that the Mayweather fight has come through.

Then he'll be pictured looking skywards for inspiration and guidance and then he'll announce , 'I'm ready,' , and everyone will cheer and roar, there will be 3 billion PPV's and he will be on the cover of all major magazines, probably bring out a song and write his autobiography.

Oh and him and his child will feature in Vogue or Time Magazine.

They may even feature a picture of him blessing some poor person, or giving out meals to the homeless, perhaps heal a blind man.

But other than that I really like him :P

I think he was inspired by Hopkins going out with a bang. With Mayweather there's a risk he could lose or look terrible in losing or winning and he wouldn't want to go out like that

Oscar really needed that fight. Five career mega fights (Whitaker,Quartey,Mosley,Trinidad,Hopkins) and he did not perform great in one of those matches. PBF would have been a mega fight for him but now he will retire with never performing brilliant in a super fight, he will probably be the only HOF that has that against him.

He will alway's been known for his great performances in his two grudge matches (Vargas,Mayorga)

    Mayorga?

I'd rather loss against a great fighter trying my absoulote best one last time instead of beating a mediocre fighter and going out on top. PBF is number 1, if ODH really wants to finally put the critics/doubters to rest and build a brilliant legacy behind him he should fight the guy....And imo, it dosen't matter if he wins or losses...It's the fact that he had the balls to fight him.
His last stand, so to say.

I can't believe the guy is retiring, sucks

say, why doesn't ODLH give rematches to the guys that beat him. Like Whitaker and Quartey

And yes Mayorga.. he wants to go out on a good note instead of risk looking bad against Mayweather.
