Murder Charge For Boxer's Nephew
The nephew of champion boxer Trevor Berbick has been charged with his murder. The ex-champion died on Sunday after being attacked with a hatchet or machete while in a church near his home in Jamaica. Harold Berbick, 20, and an 18-year-old man were charged with murder, police said.
The former boxer's body was found in the courtyard of the church in Portland, about 80 miles east of the Jamaican capital, Kingston.
Police said he had suffered a "gaping" wound to his head, probably caused by a hatchet or machete.
Berbick, who was 51 when he died, had briefly held the WBC heavyweight title, losing it to Mike Tyson in 1986.
He also had the distinction of being the last boxer to fight Muhammed Ali. Berbick won their 10-round bout in the Bahamas in 1981.
He had represented Jamaica at the 1976 Olympics
