best thing about Oscar is he always comes to fight!! Tito was the only one to put him on his bike but for as good a reason as any i believe. If a miracle happens and he fights and beats Winky in his last fight then he will be considered by some the greatest Lightweight ever!!

A fantastic fighter - what a career he has had. The Olympic Gold, then cutting a swathe through the sport. He is the real thing alright - good technique, heavy handed, good handspeed, didn't cut up, a great boxer-puncher.

He even got onto the Simpsons!!

I never forgave ODLH for beating Julio Cesar Chavez (or the remains of him anyway), but hats off to Oscar - a true champion and with some brains too.

Let me just say this...I was ring side for that fight...& Mosley thought that Oscar was robbed too.

yeah I think he is awsome I have nearly seen all his fights now,and from watching his fights nobody really beat him like I mean where you would say he was beat up,Tridiad fight was very close,and the 2 mosley fights also allthough the first Mosley will give him that one only fight he was clearly beat was Bernard Hopkins fight,and even in that fight he got caught by a lucky body blow,allthough Hopkins did deserve his win,but you have to look at it this way Hopkins was fighting at his more natural weight,I am not an expert in boxing but please correct me if I am wrong...

He's great for sure.. But I would not say one of the greatest ever.. I wouldn't honestly even say he's in the top 5 fighters of his era.... Roy JOnes, Whittaker, MOrales, Barrera, Hopkins, Toney, Ricardo Lopez, I would consider them all greater personally... I think if you take away his star quality he wasn't actually superior to any of them, and it is evident if you watch enough of his fights... He is perhaps a top 5 lightweight of all time, but he was freaking huge at 135 that was a big edge for him, and he didn't really fight any stellar lightweights.. I would put Whittaker Duran and Mosley ahead of him for sure, on a basis of who was p4p the best.. I also don't think it's a question of what if he had stayed there, because I doubt he could have continued to make the weight.

CC,excellent analysis. I've always wondered has Oscar's star power may be made him seem like a better fighter than he was? He is a good fighter but how good?

But how do we remember ODH? as a Lightweight or Welterweight? Most of his big fights have been at the higher weights and it seems like he has been there for a long time so I went for a look at his record to see in what weight class he fought the most and it was as follows:

20 bouts below 140
15 bouts below 154
7 bouts below 160

so to answer my own question, yes he fought the majority of his career as a Lightweight.

Another thing I noticed that I had forgotten was when he fought JCC it was his first fight at 140 and Chavez 97-1 had only dropped 1 split decision to Franky Randall prior so he deserves a little more credit for that win than most give him
