Default Montiel-GORRES is a done deal.

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel has agreed to put his title on the line against Filipino challenger Z Gorres on February 24 in Cebu City, Cebu province, Philippines.

Any predictions? I'm not sure...I have not seen much of Gorres but why was Montiel so reluctant to take the fight? Was it because he thinks he may get screwed in the Phillipines? I don't think he should HAVE to go over there to defend HIS title but I heard the WBO put pressure on him to take the fight!

Montiel by easy points win. If he doesn't get robbed that is.

I think he's a good decent fighter. I seen about 4 of his fights. But I think Montiel is a couple of levels above him.

As much as I hate agreeing with Mr. Violent D, I have to admit it'll be a tough one for Gorres (must be your lucky day, Violent D.). Though Gorres is one of our most fundamentally sound fighter technically, he lacks the power to keep his opponents at bay and if he fights tough agressive fighter, he'll be in for a rough ride. Another problem is that his heart and chin hasn't been tested yet and from the way I've seen him fight, I have my doubts. I've learned not to analyse a fight on the basis of records (I haven't seen Montiel fight) so I'm not making a prediction here but will just say Gorres will definitely be tested, especially before the home crowd (for the reason I still don't know, pinoy boxers fight miserably before the home crowd and I've seen that happen over and over and I can cite tons of examples - remember, all the legitimate knockdowns of Pac came before the home crowd, not to mention the trouble Larios gave him). But of course as a proud pinoy, I'm not counting him out yet, not just yet.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
