Default Buddy Mcgirt = Career Destroyer

McGirt is awful. Just look at the track record he has in recent fights. He frequently sends his fighters into the ring with a bad game plan and even worse he tells them to stick with it when it's not working. I didn't get a chance to see tonight's fight but just based on past fights

-Having Brewster start slow and try to establish the jab against a guy with superior boxing skills and a questionable chin instead of coming out guns blazing
-Having Gatti attempt to box with and fight a tactical fight against Mayweather
-Looking totally lost in Tarver-Hopkins and not having any useful advice for Tarver in the corner
-Malignaggi trying to stand and trade with Cotto way more than he should have

McGirt is completely living off of his work with Tarver leading up to the Roy Jones fights. Other than that I don't think his fighters have won any really big fights and he always tries to impose his style on fighters instead of working on emphasizing each fighter's own strengths

Billy Giales was training Malignaggi with Cotto

And Buddy actually was doing pretty good with Gatti.

McGirt will actually say the right things, but the people he trains don't listen. Like Joel Julio, against Quintana he told him to go to the body and Julio kept headhunting, don't blame Buddy.

There was nothing he could tell Tarver who was totally unmotivated himself.
Gatti he did tell, and teach him different instruction, but after Gatti was knocked down unfairly in the first round he went head hunting, and wasn't listening to Buddy.

Buddy is a good trainer IMO overrated but good. it seems like alot of people only talk about the fights his fighters wins but i've seen alot of fights where his fighters has lost. My thing is he trains two many people. he'll be on espn2 friday night and on HBO saturday night.

I agree. I wouldn't blame Buddy for last night, I don't think any other trainer would of helped Adamek from getting his ass kicked. Dawson was just to skilled for him.

Gatti could have had Jesus Christ on his side, there was absolutely no way he could have beat Mayweather.

And imo, he's done good with Brewster. Brewster is the heavyweight's biggest overacheiver and that's in large part due to Buddy.

Eh...Buddy "Fat ass with Pipe" McGirt is a pretty good trainer but not a great one in my book. He's very cocky and over confident. And like someone else says, spreads himself too thin, tryin to train so many guys. He definately did not help out Gatti against PBF, he tried to have Arturo fight Floyd like he himself would have fought Floyd in his prime. And he did not get Tarver well prepared for the B-hop fight. Also he didn't help out Badi Ajamu much from bein dominated by Roy Jones.
Aside from that, he has helped his son build up a nice little record, and helped Gatti outbox Ward twice a few years back.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

He didn't train Amaju. He just happened to be there for William Guthrie, and Denny Brown asked him to come in the day of the fight and provide corner instruction.

As entertaining as the Gatti: Ward fights were, lets not forget that Mickey Ward was no A list fighter himself...It didnt take all that much to try and outbox Mickey Ward....

I agree with Amat that Brewster is perhaps McGirts biggest success...Brewster really was just a journeyman but with guidance became somewhat better than that....

He was still in Ajamu's corner, so it still counts damn it! Quit making excuses for the fat ass pipe smoker.

Its true.. Its not that buddy isnt a great trainer.. He is.. But his stable seems to be a strange one..
I mean think about it.. Buddy does tell them what to do..They just dont listen...
Also its that fighters like tarver and gatti are hard to get motivated inside the ring..They find it hard to change... For example.. Buddy's training with buddy jr has been great..Because buddy junior idolises his father and listens to every word...
And buddy mcgirt does say the right advice also.. Like in tarver- hopkins he was pleading with tarver to stop pawing with the jab..Start snapping it..He cant start barking orders till tarver sorted the jab..And antonio never did.. So where was he to go from there.. He couldnt just skip out the jab..

Plus.. Yeh Paulie hasnt had a fight under buddy yet... And it was billy who was training paulie last fight.. Not that i agree malignaggi traded with cotto anyway.. I beleive paulie made a go of neuralising cotto's power well and threw strait punches in flurries and moved in and out rather well..
    Peace
