    Default Montell Griffin

I've been watching what few of his fights I could get, and he is a great fighter. Sure he is known for getting KO'ed in one round against Roy JOnes Jr., but he was one chin short of beating RJJ, and in the first fight gave him more fits by leaps and bounds than any other boxer Jones faced. Griffin though wasn't just good against Roy... He also did fantastic work against Toney in their second fight. I truly believe if he had a better chin he could have been an ATG.

I think he went of the rails about 92. At one time very good judges rated him the next big thing, I know he sparked McClellan in the gym months before the Benn fight or so Im led to beleive.

Although i dispute the toney wins..
We all know of the fits he gave roy in his first fight.. Roy was probably on the way to a stoppage win..
But he was doing all the right things to hang with a prime roy jones jr..
Thinking about it he really should have made it big.. In a light heavyweight division where at the time the only people to be considered on the top level was sort of him.. Virgil hill and obviously roy jones was an entire step above them.. But he had the potential to have made a real name for himself.. As far as i know he faded away..

    He turned pro in 93....
So you think he was done right before he turned pro?

Montell was a decent fighter I personally didn't rate him high, he was outboxed by Harding & 'The Tiger' was able to KO him in 4.....

He was well past his best, and Tarver was alot better when he wasn't 37. He use to have speed, and power. Anyways prime Griffin was a far better boxer than Tarver.

CC. Its fukin stupid to act like Tarver faced any where near a prime Montell Griffin. "Ice" was one hell of a fighter in his brief prime. I have seen both his first fight with Toney and his first fight with Jones, and he was not intimidated a bit in either match. He won a SD against James in the the first fight which could have gone either way, and he had less than 14 pro bouts at the time He then fought the greatest of all time p4p IMO, Roy Jones next, and was outboxing jones somewhat up till he got dropped, then he took a dive. Griffin didn't do much in his later year, or really anything past the second Jones fight. Last good performance I saw of his was when he beat Rico Hoye with basically a jab and then got screwed by the judges. Griffin had a whole lot of talent, but did not make the most of it sadly.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
