Default Am I the only one excited for Bernard-Wright?

I think this has the potential to be one of the best fights of the year. A lot of people thought Taylor-Wright would be boring, but Wright brought the fight to Taylor, and he will do the same to Bernard. I think Wright against Quartey wasn't using all his speed because he was trying to out turtle Quartey which he did effectively. We saw against Taylor which was one of the top ten fights of the year for me that Winky still had a lot of handspeed, and enough foot speed to put pressure on even Hopkins who I think will try to fight Winky in spots. However Hopkins is also a great inside fighter, and it will be interesting if Winky can catch him how Hopkins will do against Winky's defense. Both are among the best fighters in the past 20 years and maybe ever. I always thought WInky would do well against any middleweight greats ever, and now he gets his chance against one of the top 3 ever. They are both underrated athletes with more than enough speed, and in Bernard's case power. Both have great chins, and both always come in, in amazing shape. I mean Bernard looked chiselled against Tarver, and though he moved around a lot he never slowed down. Winky has just thrown his punchstat high for his entire career, and didn't look the worse for it stamina wise. I can't see WInky allowing this to be a slow paced fight, and I can't see Bernard just let Winky hit him with the jab and straight right hand, and not throw at least twice as many punches as he has in the past probably 5 years.

I think this is an intriguing fight, but it just doesnt seem right for me. Hopkins is one of my favourite fighters but I would really prefer for him to retire. Winky as good as he is, was at his limit and possibly best as a middleweight. He has no excuse to be fighting at this catch weight. If Hopkins or Winky should have gone anywhere it should have been SMW. This fight is sheer opportunism on both sides and ultimately proves nothing for me.

Why didnt Hopkins try and lure Taylor up to 168 and avenge a defeat or fight Calzaghe instead?

I guess this isn't a good fight for the KO/blood/guts fans, but I can't wait. To be honest I love the tactical wars.

I think Bernard being 42-43 equalizes Winky fighting him at 170. Winky was still strong enough to move foreward on Trinidad and Taylor at 160 though it might mean less seeing Ouma do the same thing, but I feel Taylor was in way better shape against Wright or he didn't tire himself out at least. If he had foughten Ouma the same way as he fought Winky there would be no question of how good he is. Winky is naturally the same size/weight as Roy Jones Jr., and I think 170 will be fine for him because he is a thicker than Hopkins and their walk around weight is probably about the same though Bernard has never been at his walk around weight in 20 some years.

I think it will be both. High punch numbers, some tactics, but it will be fought at a fast pace.

I think it will be interesting for hardcore boxing fans, but as far as fireworks or crowd pleasing. I doubt it.

I'm looking forward to it. It seems to be that virtually all of B-Hop's significant fight he likes to lure up a smaller man to fight him on his terms. We saw him do this effectively with Trinidad and De La Hoya and it could well work against Winky.

Winky won't be at too great a disadvantage however as B Hop isn't an overly physical fighter. He's not going to be trying to outmuscle Winky, throwing haymakers and bombs, it will be a tactical fight.

I agree that Winky vs Taylor was a classic fight last year, let's hope that Winky can take the fight to Bernard and make it interesting.

I wouldn't say your the only one, but I don't know many people who are..... :P

I just can't see it as an exciting fight. I mean B-Hop will stand there throw lean forward and then hugg. Winky will have his gloves up block the shots. It's gonna be very tactical but a snooooze fest IMO.....

Don't get me wrong I love a good tactical fight just as much if not more then the next person in line BUT theres a big difference in a good tactical fight and a jab, jab, right and hugg followed by blocked jab, blocked jab, blocked right hugg, step back stap back faint, faint jab, block hugg......

I just don't see it coming off as a GOOD tactical fight I think it'll be more of a booring tactical fight.....

Exactly, the fight has little real relevance. Hopkins doesnt deserve P4P status IMO, and Winky is way beyond a normal fighting weight.

They should both fight Calzaghe, I love the way they both bypass SMW with no consideration!!
