Default Interesting Little Tidbit of Historical Information

Ok, so I was having a go at Bob Fitzimmons' career record, and his fight with Tom Sharkey caught my eye.

This bout was promoted as for the World Heavyweight Title due to Fitzsimmons previous victory over Peter Maher. This bout had a controversial ending when Fitzsimmons knocked Sharkey flat on his back; Referee Wyatt Earp ruled that Fitzsimmons had fouled
Wyatt Earp? The shootout at the OK Corral guy? Looked a little into it, the bout took place in 1896 in San Francisco. Earp was living close by at the time in Santa Rosa, California. So I'm guessing this is the real Wyatt Earp!

Crazy. Never knew that just thought I'd share.

That's cool - I had no idea Wyatt Earp ever had anything to do with boxing!

There's a book about the fight entitled "The Earp Decision" I have it and it's an interesting read. Earp had to be disarmed prior to getting into the ring.
