    Default Mainstream sportscasters talking boxing...

You know it's a big fight nowadays when Sportcenter, Cold Pizza, and random talk radio guys are trying to talk about boxing. It guess it's good that De La Hoya/Mayweather is generating some interest with non fans and mainstream media. Hopefully is will bring in some new fans, but it cracks me up to hear sports professionals struggle and fail to come up with anything meaningful to say about the fight. I just laugh when I hear these people try to offer up commentary. They don't know a damned thing about boxing, so all they can do is discuss if this fight is being overhyped or not, if the fight is good for boxing, or what it says about boxing that this is the first real "superfight" in while. They turn a positive thing into a negative.

Almost any regular poster on Saddo knows more than these guys. It's too bad that these so called professionals don't take the opportunity to do some real research and watch some old Mayweather/ODLH fights. If they did that, they might say something that would help boxing. I would love to hear a sports caster on the evening news say something like this.

"You know, alot of people say that boxing isn't good anymore, and a lot of people have been turned off by the way it has been marketed and promoted. True, it's a mess from a business POV, but there is plenty of great boxing and boxers out there. Boxing isn't dead. It's not going away. It may not be as POPULAR was it once was, but that doesn't mean that it's not as good or that people shouldn't give a it a chance. Except for the Heavyweights. They suck."

OK, that's my rant for the night. Almost time for Chamber/Guinn.

That's what we have been saying the whole time. But getting the cover of Sports Illustrated is very impressive, the fight that saves boxing should be the official title not the world awaits.

I swear all this week i have been hearing the dumbest things. I heard one person at school say " Yeah Floyd Mayweather is very good, he even beat hopkins " Some other moron was arguing with some guy that Floyd is 22 years old. But oh well at least boxing is getting some interest. If boxing goes mainstream let's not forget we loved boxing even during its darkest years! All hail the true boxing fans here at saddo lol...

heck as long as they're talking about it it's all good. I was at work today and a girl who knows fuck all about boxing even mentioned the fight and was suggesting we should get it at the restraunt we work at,lol, saddly the managers didn't think it was all that great of an idea to much money to spend and we're not exactly a sports bar.

I agree it's good that boxing is getting some much needed media attention but I hate that sh*t. Every other time you see boxing in the media it's about something crazy Tyson has done or the sort.

Thing is when theres a big fight on everyone suddenly becomes an expert. But if you asked them to name 10 top guys they'd be stuttering more than Stanley!

You hit the nail right in the head. I was arguing with some guys about the prediction for tomorrows fight. So i told them.. name ATLEAT one guy Oscar has fought... i got 0 answers... not even a vargas or a Chavez? I ask the same for Floyd and got 0 answers they stared at me blank headed and responded " well i just know he is going to win ". lol but ya any attention is good.

I'm more talking about TV and radio. Print media has more time and space and generally does a better job. It's the TV and Radio pundits that get me irritated.
