Default Why dont Calzaghe fight Glen Johonson or Clinton Woods at Light-Heavy?

Woods holds the paper IBF belt and his style would make for a very good fight that I think in the end Calzaghe would win.

Johonson is well known and respected in boxing circles in the uk and usa and his style would make for WWIII with Calzaghe. Also a fight that I think Joe would win in the end.

Both these fights would be better than a Taylor fight so why is Calzaghe's team not trying to make them?

Because Johnson and Woods aren't star names like Jermain Taylor. They are both very good pro's and good guys, but they don't have the star quality that Taylor has. I also reckon Calzaghe could beat both of them easily. He needs a pretty close fight to build his legacy. Sound daft? What happens if he hammers Taylor ala Lacy? Taylor becomes over rated. If Taylor puts on a decent showing but stil loses, Calzaghe becomes a winner in more than one sense.

I would like to see johnson fight against any top guy, he looked awesome against Griffin. He he fought like that all the time, he'd give anyone problems.

Being serious for a minute both are bad fight choices for Joe. Not because they might beat him but when you are only 4 defenses away from equalling the ALL TIME RECORD held by Joe Louis from 60 years ago why the hell would you move up, relinquish your belt to fight a tough journeyman like Johnson with 11 losses who doesn't even hold a belt?

Calzaghe would be on a hiding to nothing. He'd gain little respect from beating Johnson, plus Johnson is no mug, thats a real hard fight for Calzaghe possibly tougher than a fight with Jermain Taylor, a fight where he'd earn 3 times the money, be able to defend his belt and be a p4p star and HBO darling if he won.

Moving up is just a stupid move for Joe right now.

As for Woods, again its a tough fight for little stateside recognition. He'd be better trying to fight Taylor, Hopkins, Wright or Jones Jr.

I would say Kessler but we all know that Frank will steer him well away from him.

Records mean nothing when you fight low calbre fighters. Look at Johnson, ll losses, but yet he is top notch quality material, in my book.
