Default Rob Calloway...any chance of him becoming a contender?

I'm sure if you have watched much HW boxing in the last few years you must have seen "The All American Prize Fighter" Rob Calloway. He's this white guy who's really a blown up cruiser weight, who has a really good record at first glance, who they bring in to get the shat beat outta him against HW contenders making comebacks and shat. For example Rahman KO'd him on his comeback, and Jameel McCline won a decision against him recently. Anyway Calloway does have some talent, and watching WNF I noticed he dropped down to Cruiser and is trying to become a real contender at that weight, he won his fight by TKO in the 3rd on Wendsday. Anyway he seems like a nice guy and I wish him the best, I think he could crack the top 10 at Cruiser, how bout you?

Yeah I think hes finally realized where he should be fighting. If he can make the weight no problem at his age then he should stay there because if you look at his record, most of his losses were to much bigger heavyweights. He needs to work on his jab but he's definately got a shot, especially with how the cruiserweight division is now. I think ESPN should match him up against the ding-a-ling man Darnell Wilson to see exactly where they both stand as potential cruiser contenders.

CC. Slow down there man. Calloway needs to take on a lesser cruiser than Darnell Wilson first IMO. Wilson would probably KO his ass...but maybe not. I mean McCline is a PUSSY, but he's a BIG PUSSY who hits sorta hard and Calloway did go the distance with him. Plus Calloway is not gettin any younger and he already as all the expierence he needs, plus he can punch a little himself, so maybe a match with Wilson wouldn't be too bad of an idea. I dunno that many fringe contender Cruisers, so I dunno who Calloway should fight next, I say a couple more journymen to get used to the weight more then take on Wilson. I'll be rootin for Calloway in his quest to be a contender though, I've seen the guy take too many ass whippins, and he's got heart, its his turn to be a winner for a change and I think he could be a legit contender at Cruiserweight.

I know that hes ranked 20 in cruiserweight already. If you ask me hes gotta make moves quick, he has alot of wear on him 70 some fights at cruiser/heavyweight is alot these days. Maybe Kelvin Davis? Felix Cora Jr.? I dont know alot of cruiserweight either.

I don't think so. Watched him for a while, saw him on Wednesday night and honestly, I didn't enjoy the fight at all really. His jab was real slow and clawing, he holds his hands real far apart and his back foot and front foot are never in line. I don't know, he looked like the same guy he was at heavyweight imo. A pretty good fighter, but not a top level fighter.

Maybe so, but how many top level fighters make up the top 10 of the Cruiser weight division right now? Not many. It's filled with pretty good fighters. I think Calloway can fit right in there if he wants it bad enough.

Actually I think the cruisers have loads of talent.

Of course you have a pretty clear cup top four - Mormeck, Bell, Cunningham, Wlod - then you have guys like Haye and Enzo from the UK who probably round out the top 6. No arguments there, all 6 have real talent. All with the exception of Haye and Enzo have stellar opposition on the records and all have done well in big fights. That's a strong top 6.

Then you have guys who if they were more active would be really good. Guillermo Jones was top 5 coming off his victory over Braithwaite. In the bout previous, Braithwaite had given Mormeck fits before succumbing to the relentlessness of Mormeck. But the fight was VERY good, a great back and forth battle that was unfortunately cut short by a bad stoppage on the ropes. Both then fell off after they just did nothing. But if he could get back, he's definitely a talent.

Marco Huck is a real fast guy who scored a very good victory over Tokarev just last week. Tokarev looked very good when he beat Felix Cora Jr and apparently, Huck just simply outclassed him. Huck would have to factor in there somewhere, Tokarev probably just outside the top 10 now.

Then you have a couple up and comers who have really been making waves. First being Matt Godfrey who Teddy Atlas just said was his favorite prospect in all of boxing. Very talented guy, possibly the best pure boxing cruiserweight in the world right now. Another guy maybe not top 10 yet, David Banks. Manny Steward's Kronk Gym prospect, made a very big step up when he beat Eliseo Castillo last year and picked himself up off the mat to do it.

Then you have very talented guys at the fringes like Darnell Wilson.

Cruiserweight is sold short by it's lack of TV exposure imo. It is a very talented division with a top 10 that is among the most stacked in boxing. Welterweight, superfeatherweight and middleweight might have a leg up on it but it's definitely deeper then everything above 160 imo.

Calloway just doesn't fit into it much. I think he would be a good opponent for a lot of those guys, but that's what he would be, an opponent. Maybe he would be able to beat someone like Felix Cora Jr., but even that would be a stretch imo. I doubt we see him in any sort of TV main event ever again. You might be right about the guys I listed being pretty good, but I still think every guy I mentioned in this post beats Calloway.

No, hes the worst 63-7 fighter I have seen. Hes pretty awful imo.

My friend has actually hung out with "Rockin Rob" before in Greenville, NC and my boy doesn't know too terribly much about boxing but he knows Rob is bound to lose if a fight goes past 4 rounds ESPECIALLY vs a top teir opponent

Well excluding No Contest...FUK you all then!!!
I sympathize with Calloway and think he can crack the top ten, he's got some pop. loads of expierence and the hunger to take one last ditch effort at making something out of his career. I wish him the best.
