WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (26-1, 20 KOs) was being lined up for a unification bout with IBF title holder Steve Cunningham. Promoter Frank Warren was negotiating with Cunningham's promoter Don King, but Wayne Braithwaite, another fighter represented by King, was a strong secondary option.
It appears that Braithwaite is now moving into the driver's seat and stands a good chance of landing the fight.
BBC Sport spoke with Braithwaite, who said he is more than willing to travel across the ocean to face Maccarinelli.
