Pretty crazy that they end up getting KOed even with all that padding on.
why don't they put their damn hands up and have at least some semblance of defense

Hey wheres my ko at on that vid I dropped a kid with a body shot through the padding ya i know he probably didnt do situps Anyway van to answer your question in the sport of tkd if you notice most of those knock outs come from a counter spin or other kick. that is the defence there is a counter for every kick and who ever screws up first looses. as far as the hands up thing i think it is just easier to pull off different kicks with that hand possition. but i always kepted my right up but its just a style that is more based on footwork and countering than blocking. really I hate watching kickboxers just take kicks when they could simply take a half step back.
lol, my very first through to the first video was, "wouldna happened if he had his hands up."Originally Posted by VanChilds
You can't have good balance to do those kinds of kick unless your hands are out to maintain centrifigal balance. Even a basic soccer ball kicks makes your arms flail.
I don't think too highly of TKD as a practical martial art the same way I do boxing, KBoxing, MT, Judo, BJJ... but those guys are amazingly talented to be able to do that.
I half agree with u von I have made tkd as practical as possible for my fighting style. But i will say this after doing tkd for a long time simple leg kicks or a roundhouse attemped to my head without setting anything up just seems way to easy to counter or avoid it seems almost silly when people try to kick at me now. The style though as a whole is more like roy jones than winky wright but it does develop great athletes
There's a fighter named Vernon White from the Lion's Den that uses alot of TKD in his MMA fights. He's lost a lot of fights, but he's always exciting and usually shows off some of his legwork. Shows that TKD can be used, but is defensively flawed.
David Lousieu (sp) used to mix in some good kicks...He had a vicious spinning back kick to a guys body that put him away....Kicks are good, but as far as MMA is concerned all I see being practical is a good leg kick, and a high kick and they need to be setup with punches.

There's a young kid that comes into our gym and his main thing is TKD. I was asking him about it and even he admitted that all those high flying kicks are mainly for show.... and that the most practical (and "deadly") of them all is the kick to the knee.
retarded. why are their hands at their waist and they're not moving AT ALL
With their hands down they have more balance to throw 'prettier' kicks. That gets them more points. Apparently it also gets them knocked out lol.
None of those were conventional roundhouse kicks, which are more situation realistic.
TKD fighters has no defense for their own weapon.
Beautiful knock outs thought, but they almost seem so vulnerable and helpless with their anticipating defense. Its pretty much just stand straight up stay on their toes, and try to counter. Like a Chess match with no pawns. Or boxing with out blocks.
