Default Just Re-watched Jones vs. Ruiz...Interesting lil detail

Having watched the Jones Jr./Ruiz fight again I was surprised to hear a little HBO cast quarrel somewhere in the region of the 10th round. In this debate George Foreman lambasted both Merchant and Lampley for being "hypocrites," by promoting a fight and then turning on the runner up and taking away from the fights credibility. This really hit home for me as i find it incredibly similar to HBO's attitude toward the Hatton/Castillo fight. Both Ruiz/Castillo were forces to be reckoned with before the fight in all interviews, promotions and were mentioned severeal times in preceeding fights. To be honest although they do provide a good coverage, I personally am becoming increasingly frustrated with HBO's cast's attitude toward boxing. But all Props to Big George Foreman.

i noticed that during the fight, because i was watching it in a room filled with "i hope roy gets beat" people...every one was saying he was going to get knocked out because ruiz was a legitimate heavy and that roy bit off more than he could chew...then as the fight kept going and roy was beating up Ruiz they starting saying,

"ruiz ain't shit, he ain't a real heavy" "He can't be lennox, or mike tyson"

And right then i knew that no matter what Roy jones did in the ring some people would not be satisfied until he loses..and soon as tarver landed the luckiest punch in the history of big name fighters being kayoed the voices did exactly what was confirmed to me that night in 2003...

"i told you roy jones wasn't shit"

    That's why i'm glad i said

"if Roy jones beats Ruiz no matters what happens afterwards RJJ is the best boxer/fighter since Ray Robinson" and IMO still is.....

Well IMO Roy is the greatest Super Middleweight ever, i kinda dont judge as all inclusive p4p, i think it's just too difficult to judge, But yeah, best super midddle ever.

Yeah quite possibly...I jus made a point to u there on another thread.
The reason that i don't regard Roy highly as a heavyweight is because in comparison to LL who reigned and defended as a champ, Roy didn. So don't think by any means im tryna take away from RJJ, i idolise the guy k

its obvious that you think highly of him...but i just say what I think is obviously clear...if you'll notice all the great light heavy that i mentioned none of their names ever come up in the hypothetical "what about Roy vs this great" no its always how would he have done against the greatest heavyweights ever..which in itself is a subconscious concession to the fact that roy would beat any fighter ever within his weight range..LHW down roy beats all of them

I remember watching him kick the living bajesus out of Montell griffin in person, you could tell that he was there to really end this early. That DQ embarrassed him, it gave him his first loss, and he was determined to show everyone where montell level was compared to jones. And he did that, in devastating fashion.
Whether or not anyone cares to remember, Roy Jones was the P4P best fighter in the world for over 5 years easily. THE BEST, No one came close in comparison to dominating the sport like he did. But as of now, Not so much. Those losses to tarver and johnson have affected in a mental way. If he could get over that, i believe he could still WOW us like he did in the years before.
NO ONE can ever take away the fact that he was THE MAN. When you heard of boxing at the time , you heard of ROY JONES P4P.

so when you say he was a lightheavy then yes he's included...anybody from 175 and under in the history of the sport ...prime roy jones eithers stops them or wins a UD....only the greatest HWs would have possibly beaten jones..and i'd still taken roy over them because they weren't like the heavys today (Super heavys) ali, marciano, demsey, louis, liston all of them were within a size range were jones would have given them hell

I disagree with some of those nsame you put and i also think some boxers at Middleweight would stand a chance like Gerald Mc.

Gerald was too open and didn't have the ring intelligence that roy had..roy would out point him or possibly stop him

Easy to say that but Gerald charges right at you and im not sure if Roy can avoid Geralds bombs for that long its a toss up.
