Thread: Boxing in charlottesville VA

Their isnt a known boxing gym in Charlottesville, im trying to learn how to box and do a few fights, Just for fun in addition to my tennis. Does anyone know what i should do? are their boxing trainers? If any one could offer some insight that would be great. Thanks

Hey jake did you try the listing? You might be able to find a gym in a town or city that isn't too far away. I know for myself that there is no gyms locally where I am at but there's a decent gym 30 minutes away.

If you can't find a gym which is as close as you'd like, alternatively you can look up some athletic or martial arts centers in your area. Take a look in the yellow pages. You can also ask around, some police have their own athletics, and it's likely the people there can point you in the right direction.

Jake you actually have a pretty good gym right across the mountain in Staunton... it's probably a 20 mile drive on interstate... but heck I drive 45 minutes to get to it...

Just to come in and work out on Monday, Tuesday's and Wednesday's is not that expensive... but will let the coach talk to you about this... it is a lot cheaper then say a membership at Golds Gym... etc...

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are all workout nights...

20 Minutes of group warm up - 4 x 2 min rounds of shadow boxing followed by exercises, sometimes some drills, etc...

3 rounds on pads for everyone... you will be paired up with someone that knows how to work the pads...

20 Minutes rotating stations... usually 1 minute on a station and rotate...

Afterwards... it's pretty much free practice... meaning that if you know what you want to work on and can find a partner to work with you... you can use this opportunity to do so... more pad work, technique, etc...

Be prepared to work... cause at times there is a waiting list to join the gym... and if your not working, coach won't put up with it... and will give someone that is serious an opportunity.

With that being said... a lot of people in the gym will never compete and come for the workout... but they do work hard...
