Default Tito........ WTF are you doing?!?!?

I'm slightly drunk, so I won't mince words here. As most veteran posters know (and of course, by my nickname), I'm a total Tito fan. I've followed Tito's career from the beginning and I love the guy. He's given boxing so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much. His fights have always been exciting to watch, and IMO, boxing misses him. He also always had that JOY while fighting, that it was hard to dislike the guy. A true Puerto Rican hero, with HOF credentials and a wonderful legacy.

Having said all that..... Tito, WTF are you thinking?!?!? Why Roy Jones Jr.? I mean, let's be honest. Tito's best weight was NOT 160 pounds. He did do better at 160 than Oscar did, but it was not his best weight. His best weight was 147, and then at 154. At 160, he seemed out of his weight. So now he's going to fight Roy Jones Jr. at 170?!?!? One of the ATG's at 175, and Tito's going to fight him at 170? That doesn't make any sense. I mean, hell.... I'm gonna be rooting for Tito as loud as I can, but man.... give me a break. There weren't any OTHER fights out there for Tito's comeback?

I would've wanted Tito-Oscar at 160, to settle an old score. Sort of like Rocky-Apollo after Rocky III. But Jones at 170? Who's brainstorm WAS this?!?

The Tito haters are going to have a feast with this one. While the Tito fans are going to be optimistic about Tito's chances. In any case, Tito's taking on a HUGE CHALLENGE. Even having been KO'd a couple of times, you gotta realize that Jones has fought at heavyweight. I mean, the man is not without skills.

Bottom line........ I'll watch. Hell yeah, I'll watch. But I'm not overly optimistic. Hopefully it'll be a good fight. As for Tito's legacy, IMO that's already cemented. I just hope it's a good fight.

That's the reason we call boxers as true warriors when they fight an almost impossible fight but then overcoming it later. If he wins over Roy Jones, his legacy will be cemented with marble.hehe.If he loses, his greatness will never,in any chance, be diminished. So he has actually nothing to lose after all. Brilliant move, therefore, for Tito.

I see your point, and I've heard the argument. He's not expected to win, so why not? I guess it depends on how the fight goes down. If Tito loses, but gives a good account of himself, who knows? What I do agree with is Tito's legacy. He doesn't need to prove anything, IMO. He's done it all. Here's hoping he's got one more great victory left in him.

Yea, he doesn't have anything to lose in a sense, legacy wise I suppose... But in another, he does.. He could be in some excellent fights and could likely do very well at 160.. I'm assuming he can't make 154 as that would be the wisest choice.. But by fighting Roy jones at 170, I have to agree with your original post Titofan... I don't see any sense behind it. Sure it would be something if he won, but at the same time nothing too spectacular sence people already write off Jones as being shot or having no chin and being gunshy etc.. I would have to imagine Tito would indeed get a ton of credit for pulling it out. But I don't see that happening at all. Jones Jr hits way harder than anyone he's fought, and is also faster and a bigger man than anyone he's ever fought. Even in his years. And if Tito loses, he won't really have anywhere to go, so I see completely what you mean as to it being ammunition for his detractors.. They'll just say he got beat by every great fighter he ever faced, and retired after each time. The fact that he showed the heart of a lion by stepping up in weight and taking on the 3 ATG's that he did in their division will not receive as much attention. I can see why as a big fan of him this move pisses you off.. Id also like to see him back in the mix as a title contender at 160 or SMW.

many of us can eaily say this would be a one sided fight but I don't think it will be. I see RJJ giving Tito a clinic early and when he begins to drop his guard mid-way through the fight (like he always does)....Tito's left hook will begin to land often and we know what that means......

Remember, Roy loves to play with his opponents when he is giving them a clinic....Tito isn't the one to play around with.

The only thing that Tito could win this fight on is Roy's now dependence to lay on the ropes and rest. Tito could catch him with that. I'm just worried because Winky and Hopkins beat Trinidad easily but Roy gets beat and it ruins his legacy

I don't think Tito has been in the loop for some years and that video signing was a circus act!!
He should be fighting at 154 and looking at Mayweather not Jones jr who is going to cook his goose!

It's a battle of boxing's 2 biggest gamblers in cockfighting. Both love to gamble on their roosters and both are falling short money wise. Who will win "THE PEOPLE'S CHAMPIONSHIP"

Itcould be, or it could do him some permanent damage if he gets seriously punished by Roy, and with Roy's legacy and future career on the line, I can't see Roy fucking about.

"A toda madre, o un desmadre. In other words, you win it all, or lose everything" from Blood in Blood out.

This is what Tito is doing. He is putting all his eggs in one basket. He didn't come back to be a contender and work his way to another title. He came back for the big boys. This fight gives him a fast pass. If he wins, he can pretty much fight anyone he wants. Taylor/Pavlik winner, Calzaghe/Kessler winner, Hopkins, Oscar, Floyd, anybody. He will be 36 by the time this fight gets made, he don't got time to f**k around.

It still is a huge risk IMO and I fear he might have bitten off more than he can chew and is banking a little too much on those two knockout losses from Roy. What bothers me the most is not the weight, Tito has been walking around at 200+, it's the inactivity that makes me the most nervous. Those first few rounds of shedding ring rust could be deadly when facing a guy like Roy Jones Jr.

However, something tells me that Roy is not gonna go for the kill from the start. He has alwais been a showmen and wants to demonstrate his skills. He's also not been that interested in finishing guys lately. All these things point to Tito being a very much live underdog.

very true. That was what I was thinking when I said Tito has nothing to lose and so much to gain. If he wins over Roy, he will have all the fight he wants. That's why I said before that it was an impressive move on the part of Tito.

If Tito get KO early he is going to look dumb. It is a crazy move and has all the hall marks of back firing on him. If and when he looses he can say I was way past my best but this fight should have happened years ago and even then he would have got beat. It is an intreseting and novelty fight with two former greats colliding but both fighter way past their best and not knowing when to call it a day.
