Default Marco Antonio Barrera Media Interview

David Avila: And another questions is how is it sparring with Valero. I mean, he always goes 100%. I mean this guy's a murderous puncher.

Eric Gomez (translating): He says that yeah, you know what, he says all I can say is he's a great fighter. He's a great person; great fighter and we have a great relationship. And we got together and we bonded. We talked about certain things and I told him that basically all those guys that are calling out my name and want to fight against me, I'll pass them on to him.

    valero-pac anyone?

What on earth are you gibbering about??

Im sure the Valero sparring has kept Barrera on his toes in terms of dealing with explosive power. Valero doesnt have Pacs handspeed, but is a strong fighter. Im quite sure Valero would have been given the run around by Barrera in sparring. Just too wily and skilled for Valero really.

I like Valero. A little too rough around the edges though. With some refining he may be a real force in the future.

I'm thinking along the same lines and i dont think theres much better training he could get than training in a MARCO CAMP BEFORE A FIGHT OF THIS MAGNITUDE.

    It is a huge fight.

Both fighters have had the opportunities to use each other for this.

Barrera has had a high intensity camp with quality sparring. Better than Pac has been able to get for sure and for longer.

Its gonna be a classic, may the man who wants it most win!!

Well if it did come down to desire you couldnt deny Marco the win, but there are many other factors and i don't really feel qualified to analyse them all.

There are factors beyond desire. Such as length of training camp. Intensity of camp. Ability to adapt to an opponent. Ability to adapt a general boxing approach.

These are factors that make Barrera look like a pretty decent underdog

Agreed, alongside Age factors, wear and tear, complacency, pressure and training disruptions, this fight could be a real enigma up until the final bell.

hey hopefully valero can be the guy that tells us who is really better eric or marco? well when it comes to sparring that is. I bet he will refuse to answer it'll be whoever is closer to him

I don't think he learned much from eric when they sparred though, maybe marco can teach him or change him a bit to be less wild.
