Default Looks like Pavlik Taylor rematch is going to happen.

    VINDICATOR SPORTS STAFF

YOUNGSTOWN — Move over John Duddy, it looks like Jermain Taylor wants another shot at Youngstown's Kelly Pavlik.

Taylor, who lost his middleweight title to Pavlik last month, told Top Rank Boxing on Monday he plans to exercise his rematch clause with Pavlik, setting up a possible February non-title fight between the two at the catch weight of 166.

"He informed Top Rank," said Pavlik's manager, Cameron Dunkin. "There's nothing done yet, though. They could change their mind tomorrow and we'd be back right where we are."

Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) had been tentatively scheduled to fight Duddy on Jan. 26 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, the same venue that held the first Pavlik-Taylor fight.

But Taylor's decision changes things. Taylor (27-1, 17 KOs) had secured an rematch clause in the contract before the first fight and repeatedly said he planned to use it.

Dunkin said a Taylor fight would probably take place in February.

By triggering the clause, he's guaranteed to be Pavlik's first opponent. He had until Oct. 29 to activate the clause.

Taylor lost his WBO and WBC titles to Pavlik when he was knocked out in the seventh round. One big question surrounding Taylor will likely be his choice of trainer. He reportedly is considering dumping legendary trainer Emanuel Steward, who has trained him the last four fights. Taylor has not looked impressive under Steward and may seek a change.

    I'm a lot happier to see Taylor/Pavlik 2 than Duddy/Pavlik.
John isn't ready, by a long shot.
Last Saturday night we saw him box a poor opponent of Kelly's height and he had an awkward if not unsuccesful 1st round.(he then succeded in obliterating Prince AAron in the 2nd)
Nonetheless, Duddy needs to learn a lot before even dreaming of Challenging the top dogs and a fight with another top level contender is extremely important in my view

The result will be the same Pavlik by KO
This time when tagged Pavlik wont hold his chin out ,he will cover up.
JT has no gas in the tank after 5 round and fight in spurts , a big no no againest a pressure fighter like Kelly.

Yep, he'll break Taylor again, same round, same way. Kelly won't goof around with Taylor this time and Jermaine will be apprehensive. He'll stay on the outside and try to outbox Kelly, but he'll get caught again one way or the other and then the Fat Lady will start singing. Wonder what Jermaine will do if Pavlik beats him again Will be interesting to see if Taylor gets a new trainer and who it will be. Maybe he'll try for Floyd Sr

I think it will be interesting to see what adjustments taylor will make now that he knows what to expect. I for one don't think it will be anything like the first fight. Who wins i don't know but i don't see another pavlik walk thru.

This would be the right time for Taylor to go back to Pat Burns with his hat in his hand.

Trainers can make a difference in rounds like the 5th & 6th round of their previous match up. Steward was telling Taylor that Pavlik was spent...that he had nothing left & the next thing you know...Taylor's knocked the fwock out!

Burns would have coaxed Taylor into a better mentality...but I'm not so sure that a sound frame of mind is an easy thing to master after youv'e had your brain knocked into the top of your skull.

I honestly think that Taylor will fair better this time...but I still believe that Pavlik can beat him again. If Taylor boxes smart he could wrangle a decision...but I don't see him stopping Pavlik.

I'd actually like to see a draw & then Pavlik fight someone else & then have a third bout end in Kelly's favor.

I hope they don't have an immediate rematch, no need. I reckon Pavlik would beat him even faster.

Taylor looked poor going into the fight, fought his best fight in ages, and still got stopped. A serious regroup is in order and maybe a split from Steward wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Trainers can make the difference, but it's going to be hard to get right back in with the same and only guy that has brutally knocked you out. Jermaine may just come out in the 1st couple of rounds and try for the k.o. he mismanaged in the 1st fight. If he does that, unsuccessfully, he'll spend himself and then we know what'll happen then. The last fight JT was ahead on the cards and probably would have gotten a gift decision, just like some thought he did in several previous fights. Seeing as how he's not the HBO poster boy anymore, I wonder if he can pull out gift decisions anymore{I personally didn't have JT winning before the k.o.}. He'll have to fight alot smarter this time, but knowing Pavlik can hurt him at anytime has got to be something he'll worry about. Pavlik will make adjustments also, if he's smart, so it should be a good one if Taylor comes in right. I hope that if JT wins they have a 3rd also, and wonder if Pavlik's camp can put a rematch clause in the contract this time But I would rather see Pavlik break Taylor again and go onto other guys, and maybe they'll meet again at SM.

If Taylor gets a KO, it will have to be during the first half of the fight. He seems to have severe stamina issues and not just in the Pavlik fight.

You can check all his previous 4 fights and he said the same thing in the post fight interview. "I used up too much energy early and got tired later in the fight"

If he does not get his stamina issues corrected, he will not be able to take Pavlik's relentless onslaught for a full 12 rounds.

    on the entire post.

Here's the only thing...for some reason I have never bought into these new addition/superstar trainers that much...but when you have a fighter that's been with a trainer since they were a kid or for 10 or more years...if it aint broke don't try to fix it...because you usually FUDGE it!

Again...agree. Jermain was ahead on all the cards & would have gotten the nod, IWO. The thing is...you wonder how much more of that S*** HBO wants to take.

I say that they are thrilled to have Pavlik & will want to keep him now. They sold a lot of tickets & collected a shitload of viewers off of him & they will probably try to hold on to him.

I'd actually love to see him outbox Taylor.

He was coming on great in the 5th round & up. He was outlanding Taylor in the jab department & any time that jab landed...it hit like a power punch.

    Very well stated.

Agreed...but honestly...Pavlik doesn't need to do much more than to up his jab output. That jab totally took Taylor out of the game & when he doubled it up & then followed with the right...Taylor was done.

    I WANT PAVLIK TO STAY @ 160!

The silliest part is that its at 166. Will Kelly come back to 160 assuming he beats him, will it hurt him physically messing around with his weight like that. Probably not but its still silly that its at 166, even though I think the added weight might help Kelly more than Jermain. Even though I'm impressed that Taylor wants an immediate chance at him it should be at 160 for the title.

Anyway I think Pavlik wins again. I'm not sure what Taylor will do differently, will he be real cautious and try to hold Pavlik off for 12, I don't think his stamina's good enough for that. He could just try to go all out early trying to get a KO, he can hurt Kelly, it wasn't all Kelly being silly and putting his chin out.

Thanks Wacko, and CC back. And you're absolutely right Ouma, it wasn't all Kelly being a goof-off, Taylor had smacked him real well several times, but only when Kelly stuck his head out to do whatever it was he was going to do did JT hurt him good. But still, faces or not, JT may have done the same damage, so this should put Kelly in a fix it or face it frame of mind knowing that JT can damage him. I think Kelly believed since he took some great shot from Miranda that he could just walk right through Taylor's. I personally forgot how hard JT could punch, and I'll bet Kelly did to; so if anything changes about Kelly in a rematch, it will be his respect for JT's power. I kind of think JT might come out balls to the wall in the 1sr rounds also, but he better get Kelly out of there this time or he's f#cked, period!! I don't know how much a new trainer will help JT as I think most of his problems can be corrected internally. FOTY candidate already. 2008 will ROCK!!!

Pavlik wins this fight regardless of the weight for me. He'll KO JT earlier this time. That was the best we have seen from JT and he was KTFO. What can he improve? His stamina? Still won't match Kelly's. The only problem for Pavlik is whether he goes back to 160 after the fight. There are some decent fights out there but I don't think he will. If he beats JT again,he could fight the winner of Kessler v JC which would be an uber mega fight imo!

I'd just as soon see Pavlik stay at 160 for a little while. I mean, the guy just got the damn belt a month ago, and everyone is talking about him moving up. I may be in the minority here, but I'd still love to see an Alan Greene/Pavlik fight. I know he got bested by Miranda, but it was obvious he wasn't on station that night with all the medical problems. I still say he can give Pavlik bad fits, but regardless I'd love to see that fight. If Kelly moves up I don't want it to be for Joe or Mikkel, not at 1st, but a definate fight with Andrade. What a war for as long as it lasted. I want to see someone who can k.o. Librado{kind of}.
