Default Your opinion please on Daniel Ponce De Leon.

I havn't seen much of him and after watching the Escobedo fight he seemed to just go for the big shots and go for the K.O. much like Paul Smith and ended up with wild swings missing wheras Escobedo was picking his shots off but only on various occasions and Escobedo never kept the pressure up throughout the fight and towards the last few rounds was where he lost the fight IMO. I gave it to Ponce De Leon 115-113 in a close fight (Robert Hoyle's score card of 118-110 was a joke by the way) but I felt Daniel was sloppy and regardless of the KO of Bautista in one round he looked average in there on Saturday.

De Leon is a good fighter with a great chin and a wicked punch. He's power is his biggest asset. But that's about all he has. I can't see him beating the more skilled fighters like Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez

VD pretty much summed it all up....Hard hitter with a good chin but would get eaten alive by the elite of his division...Guys like Vazquez and Marquez would use him as a showcase....IMO he needs a bit more defense in his game and he will do much better

He wasnt possesed enough by the warrior spirit of his grandpa this last fight. He has about a 2 second wind up with his left bombs. He always has a punchers chance tho. He will get outpointed easy by Caballero, Vasquez, and Marquez IMO.

There is talk of Juan Manuel Lopez and de Leon going at it in the near future. Initially I though Lopez should get a few more fights under his belt. But after seeing de Leon against a boxer with a similar style to Lopez, I think Arum should make the fight happen. Lopez, who has great power, should be able to handle de Leon.

No. Escobedo (De Leon last opponent) was a little more experience than Lopez. He knew how to hold and clinch when De Leon got to close. I don't see Lopez possessing that trait. I think a fight with De Leon at this stage in Lopez career would be suicide. I'll be the Bautista fight all over.

I question how many fights you have seen of Lopez. The first time I saw him was at MSG on the undercard of Cotto-Abdullaev. I travelled to Mohegan Sun to watch him fight (and took a picture with him and he signed a boxing glove I bought) and I have seen many other bouts either live in P.R. or on television (Telefutura). Lopez has the same boxing ability as Escobedo AND more power. Escobedo would have won that fight if he had the power to do so. Lopez's power will make the difference. Trust me.

    11. He's a great prospect. No doubt. But De Leon ain't no Hugo Dianzo (Lopez best opponent faced so far). And his power is something Lopez has never faced before. Can he handle it? The fact that you met him is probably more reason you want him to succeed. And there's nothing wrong with that (I met and hung out with Marshall Martinez plenty of times. And wanted him to do good. But he went to jail instead). But it shouldn't cloud your judgment. De Leon would be to much for Lopez right now

I'd be interested to see a Ponce v Caballero rematch to see if daniel has really improved or not. The winner of that fight could take on the winner of Vasquez v Marquez III.

Needs A LOT of work in the skills department.
The more skilled fighters would beat him BUT if they all decided to trade with him RMarquez, Vasquez, Caballero I really think he'd spark them out before they got him.

Not sure if people already know this but hes been nicknamed 'The Stone Thrower' (El Tirador De Piedras).

Damn, the other night Ponce looked like a smaller version of Feliciano, just sloppy but keeps coming, though he didn't take any big shots that I remember.

Yea I could barely even watch the fight. de leon was just so sloppy and all over the place. He won the fight though
McGirt recalling the minute break between the 9th round of the Ward fight "He said, 'Help me stand up and I'll finish the fight.'"
