Congrats to Kelly. Big year for him. No doubt he was the surprise of the year. Floyd did was he was supposed to, Kelly defeated the odds. Toss up to me on who should win the prize, but I lean towards Kelly for doing it unexpectedly.

Pavlik deserves it the most, hopefully the ring mag isn't starting to get infested by GBP influences.

It's a well-deserved award. Pavlik earned it by winning three fights, as the underdog in two of them and winning the middleweight title against Jermaine Taylor. Many people considered Taylor in the top 10 p4p prior to the fight.
Cotto had a great year and won two fights I did not expect him to win and were it not for Pavlik my vote for fighter of the year would go to him. The Mosley fight was a great showing by Cotto though, so I can't really argue with those who pick him.
Floyd had two impressive victories, but many people expected him to beat ODH and most picked him to beat Hatton. Beating Oscar was impressive, but IMO not as impressive as Pavlik beating Miranda, which I'm still pissed off about, and Taylor and knocking both of them out. Maybe I'm just too used to PBF winning to be as impressed as I should be.

Forget Mayweather as fighter of the year. I think its between Cotto and Pavlik. Pavlik did knock the two best Middleweights in the world OUT! While Cotto beat up on Judah then eeked out a SD win against Mosley. So maybe because of the way that Pavlik won against such good fighters he deserves it. Or maybe Cotto does for beating freakin Sugar Shane Mosley. I dunno.

I don't get it.. Mayweather fought as good of competition as anytone this year, and he beat them both in the two biggest fights of the year. I think Pavlik is the biggest up and comer, but he doesn't deserve the fighter of the year because its clearly Mayweather who did more for the sport than anyone else, and like I said he won both his fihgts. While Pavlik was almost ko'ed in the second round, Mayweather was never in serious trouble of losing either of his fights let alone getting ko'ed

How can you say Miranda is a good fighter? He swings for the fence post and any of the top, top middleweights/super middleweights will beat him up. He like Lacy, a B level fighter.Taylor is good, but people forget how close Pavlik was to losing that fight. Both Oscar and Hatton are better than either Taylor or Miranda.

Right,so Yahoo,Boxingtimes,Max boxng, and a few other places give Pavlik or Cotto the award and The Ring magazine,Oscar influenced, awards it to Mayweather? And it's the only place I've seen give the award to Mayweather thus far.

The only way they could be as deserving of it is because both Cotto and Pavlik haven't won it yet, but both Cotto's and Mayweather's year have been far better for the sport than Pavlik's year.

It's FIGHTER of the year based on the INDIVIDUALS accomplishments, not what they did for boxing. That would be the boxing achievement of the year,if there were such an award. If taking into what has been done for the sport was a factor,Oscar De La Hoya would be in contention every year including this year, but it's not.So...?

Even based on accomplishments Miranda is what like 75th on the p4p list, and Taylor is like 20th? Oscar was in the top 10 almost forever, and even right now he is in the to 15, and Hatton was in the top 10 when Mayweather fought him. Mayweather clearly fought the better competition of the two, and he beat them, and while Pavlik is naturally a 160 pounder at the very least, Mayweather weights around 147 walking around. People have been criticizing Mayweather for not getting the opposition he should have, and now he gets it, and he still dominates and people are still not happy.

Pavlik was pretty much unknown at the start of this year, he was the underdog against Miranda and Taylor, to start off the year he KO a good hard hitting fighter who had never been stopped aka Jose Luis Zertuche. Next he takes on Miranda who was supposed to be the future of Middleweight division, and Pavlik just totally destroys Miranda in a one sided fight, lets remember how many people were picking Miranda in this fight. Then he fights Taylor, yet again Pavlik was the underdog, Taylor had beaten names like Hopkins x2, Spinks, and yes Pavlik was hurt in the 2nd round but so what ?? that actually added more drama to the fight, because Pavlik come back and totally destroyed Taylor in one of the Fights Of The Year. Mayweather was the favorite in Oscar De La Hoya fight plus the Ricky Hatton fight.

You have to look at this from different angle, no one expected Pavlik to be future of Middleweight division. And just look what he has achieved in a year ?? beat 2 of the best Middleweights at that time. And now everyone can't stop talking about him.
