Default Calzaghe:Hopkins - One of my Concerns

Iv spent the whole day thinking this fight over in my head trying to play it each and every way i can so that maybe i can get a clear picture of whats most likely to happen.

Through doing this iv become very aware that Calzaghe's punches could look very ineffective against Hopkins. In many ways, i can see Hopkins adopting the role of the power puncher, catching the judges eye with nice tidy hard shots while Joe (sorry to say) slaps away.

Im want Joe to win and im sure he will convincingly, but right now (after seeing a few Hopkins fights) im a bit worried.

That's right. Why do you think Hopkins INSISTED on HOME ADVANTAGE.

Golden Boy promotion, Old Hop is selling it as USA vs UK, gets the ref and judges on his side, probably banking on a few thousand MORONIC Brits booing the USA anthem.

All Old BHop has to do is, do what he does best, spoil and bore.

    Spoil and bore.

    He'll nick it on points.

Yeah Cortez (Puerto Rico, born New York) did a great job in helping Floyd beat-up Ricky.

Good observation Jim i have said this countless times that Calzaghe will have a rough night with Hopkins. Because Hopkins can off set Calzaghe's rhythm with clinches and foul play, plus slow him down. I hope Calzaghe doesn't just come straight forward like he has done in the past in other rough tough fights, trying to beat Hopkins with a barrage of punches and just trying to outwork him because Hopkins is much too clever for that, i think Calzaghe should use his jab more in this fight. Taylor gave Hopkins hell with his jab, and Calzaghe has a solid jab which showed against Kessler if Calzaghe fights smart by using his jab and his excellent array of punches to the body and head and doesn't get too involved on the inside allowing Hopkins to clinch and use his dirty tactics to off set him. Then Calzaghe should win a tough but clear cut decision.

If Calzaghe wins it is because of his workrate, but Hopkins is very crafty and can take away that advantage by making Joe fight his fight. Hopkins big advantage is that he is very good at fighting southpaws and taking away their jabs as he did Wright and Tarver. Calzage is a different kind of fighter though and I think he will give Hopkins all problems with his handspeed and pace. But Hop can find a way to win but im still leaning toward Joe by decision.

Calzaghe does struggle against dirty fights he carnt get drawn into a messy fight he needs to use his speed and needs to find those akward angles he throws punches from. Not get sucked in by Hopkins who will try to rough Calzaghe up in the clinches.

i hvae to admit that this fight worries me because i like b-hop. i think this fight is insane for hopkins at this stage. i think calzaghe will knock him out and send him into retirement. thats what worries me. 8-10 years ago hopkins wins bye descision.

Joe's pace is the key for him...he needs to have one of his 1000+ punch output nights and not give Hopkins a second to breathe...If he tries to get tactical with Bernard he will lose....

I am not a Hopkins fan, I am voting for the Brit on this one, I don't want to be disloyal to my country but I just like JC better. But for some reason I still think Bernard will win

    Trust me Jim...........

Calzaghe's 90+ "ineffective," LOOKING punches that he throws every round will do a lot more for the judges than Hopkins's 25 SOMEWHAT effective looking punches to the judges.

Hopkins won't win 3 rounds of this fight. Bet the house on it

one things for sure......... joe is fav due to his high workrate, hand and foot speed, and hopkins 43 year old body will find it very hard to keep up if joe gets into his pattern. if joe doesnt win, then i'm sorry it shows he was never a great. it should be a hell of a fight

Simple fact is if calzaghe wins its because Hopkins is 43 years old.
    You see my point ?
He will not get the credit even if he does win , as in time historians will say , well Hopkins was a very old fighter.
