Howdy do folks. New here and wanted to chime in and say hi.
I am a huuuuge boxing fan and Ive been watching this site for a long time.
A few random thoughts on my maiden post:
Tonight was the Klitschko/Ibragimov fight. Im a big Wlad/Vitali fan and was proud of Wlad tonight, even if a little embarrassed for him.
I had no doubt he would win, (though I expected a knockout midfight) but I cant help thinking he was entirely too gunshy given the opposition. That being said, and AFTER seeing how far Wlad has come developing his thunderous jab (that jab damn near as hard as alot of straight hands by less powerful fighters) I can't stop thinking, "what would it look like if he wasn't afraid to get hit and really just unloaded on that right hand?"
I understand WHY he fights the way he does, and i couldnt have been more proud of him, picking himself up off the canvas three times against Peter. That fight was a real turning point for Wlad but I had hoped by now to see less timidity and really load up on some shots since then. Even when he's half-ass commited to that straight right, its a thing of beauty and Im not sure there's many who could take more than a couple.
Can't wait to see Wlad unify. Of all the title holders, I actually think Wlad's toughest fight would be a rematch with Peter. I dont see Chagaev or Maskaev being a threat. At all.
Can't wait to see Hopkins/Calzaghe either. I've been following the threads you guys are writing in about this fight and I hear alot of indecision about what this fight will mean to either fighter if they win. About how a Calzaghe win would age Bernard overnight in the view of many, or how a win for BHop would 'illuminate' Joe for the overrated fighter some think he is.
My view differs. I see a competitive first three rounds, then a completely lopsided Calzaghe clinic in the back nine. I know, I know. I'll catch some flak for it, but you'll see. Joe will be entirely too busy and from too many wierd angles. Yes, Bernard is a great counterpuncher with good defense. I stand by my prediction. 117-111 Unanimous Calzaghe decision.
Also a huge fan of Ricky Hatton. Better luck in the future Hatton. That one wasn't meant to be. Try as I might to think otherwise, I believe Floyd takes Ricky 10 out of 10 times. Sadly. Do the right thing, Floyd and fight Miguel.
That's about it. I was born and bred on Mike Tyson and still have enough stardust left from the 80's and 90's to rank him in my top 5. I dont care what he did outside the ring, Iron Mike will always be something special to me.
Take good care all, and it sounds like Vitali is eying the winner of the Maskaev/Peter fight. If Vitali can get through camp injury-free, it will be a shellacking for the brothers Klitschko. My gut says Vitali is done though and Wlad will rule the division for another two years.
