Default Finally became an Israel Vazquez fan

Must admit I've never been too hot on Israel Vazquez. I thought he got completely outboxed by Ghonzalez before he ran out of steam like the weak willed pussy he is and I thought Vazquez himself quit in the first Marquez fight.

I thought Rafael was winning the second fight and was the victim of a premature stoppage and I certainly thought this time around he would adjust, box smarter and win a decision.

Well Vazquez demontstrated why he's a multiple times champ and that he truly deserves his p4p status.

The way he kept coming, especially the final thrilling 12th round was an exceptional demonstration of sheer will and leaving it all in the ring.

Can't think of many fighters who have a bigger heart than Isreal Vazquez, he's a true champion.

I hope he gets a rest from Marquez though. With Ponce De Leon, Cabellero and Steve Molitor all out there I want to see him try and unify before he's completely burnt himself out.

Great fighter and a true warrior.

I agree 100%. As exciting as their trilogy was, it probably shortened the careers of both of them. They both need a deserved rest from each other.

i've always like isreal, the trilogy with larios was another good one. If you've seen their second fight. Larios came out with sheer determination to get back at isreal. Larios threw over a thousand punches and took out isreal in the 12th. Isreal won 2 of their 3 fights though and now he has done the same against rafa. Isreal is a Legend!!!!

I like Israel too. He's a worker and a respectable guy outside of the ring, I really do like him and I hope his name goes down alongside Barerra, Morales, Sanchez, Castillo and indeed the Marquez brothers.

Vasquez fought a GREAT second half...absolutely timesless fight and one for the ages. There is nothing not to like about Vasquez.

been a vasquez fan for quite some time. remembering when he fought johnny gonzalez takes me back because alot of people were rooting for gonzalez. I don't know if i was the only one rooting for vazquez but i know a champion when i see one.

Now let us forward to the present time when i also rooted for vazquez on the first fight between vazquez and marquez. I've always said that vasquez is just too good on the inside.Marquez on the first fight controlled the fight with his jabs beginning of the first through maybe third or fourth round. when he started coming in and not keeping the distance that's when Israel came in and dropped him. although Rafael came back and started jabbing again and made vasquez nose look really bad and stop the fight it was o.k.
    it was a great fight.

Second match was better. once agian we go back on how good vasquez is on the inside. i knew it was only matter of time that marquez would bit and get to the inside which eventually happen and you all know the rest.

Third fight this SAT. what a beautiful fight it was. good control by marquez first half but once again during all 3 fights vasquez comes with explosiveness in the last rounds. Always coming forward and not retreating like he did during all 3 fights.

Bravo to both men take nothing away from Marquez but a TRUE champion moves forward and fights for their belt. whatever the outcome maybe he always giving pressure to make sure the belt is going to stay with him. Unlike other fighters................boo 2 you.

I agree with you bout Vasquez being a great warrior and all, but Bilbo, my JFAT brotha, Jhonny Gonzalez is not a "weak willed puss", he fights for his family and he fights his heart out.

He just got in there with a bigger, more determined man in Vasquez and Gerry Penalosa caught him with a perfect body shot. I've seen Gonzalez get up off the canvas to win before, he's a fighter.

    That is all. lol.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

The thing I've always admired about vasquez is that he treats every fighter the same.
In every fight he comes to fight with his heart on his sleeve and his head on a platter.
I've heard the Gatti Trilogy mentioned a number of times in relation to Vasquez, however, I feel this is not as similar as people believe.
Gatti was beaten by all the great fighters he fought. Vasquez has gone through the mill with two great fighters and came out triumphant (marquez and larios.) He may well be described as a warrior, but he is also a winner.

On a persoanl note, the career of Bernard Dunne was well documented in my country. He was awarded a massive following and all his fights were essential viewing. My father who has become a casual fan sat and watched all the dunne fights including his first and only loss to Martinez. Although a casual fan as I've mentioned he knows his boxing.
Martinez was heralded unbeatable by the pro dunne press afterward.
Last Night I sat watching the Marquez Vasquez fight...My father was watching over my shoulder and asked "what weight?" Super-Bantam I replied "Martinez and Dunnes weight"
My dad shook his head and mused "Martinez will not beat either of them." "They're different" "They're something else."

It's true bothe fighters are the elite, Vasquez every so slightly better, so in contrast to Gatti who won a monumental non-title trilogy, Vasquez has just been named victor of a title trilogy naming him the best Super bantam in the world and a pound for pound certainty.

Don't know how to say this BUT you've missed about a good 8 years of his career.
