Default I've Become A Big Fan Of Floyd Patterson

This guy was truly what a boxer should be a good sportmans and a good guy outside the ring, and amazingly exciting in the ring. And also IMO he had some of the quickest handspeed in Heavyweight boxing history i just love watching this guy fight he is so exciting, i just recently watched him tear up Henry Cooper what a performance that was. I feel he was far too small for Heavyweight and he would of been one of the greatest Light Heavyweights of all time.

Floyd Patterson was a class act in and out of the ring. And being a small heavyweight he had to pick himself off the canvas more than any other heavyweight champion in history. What he lacked in size he made up for with skill, speed, and heart.

Floyd was one hell of a fighter...He would have been one of the best LHWTS of all time I agree....Though Floyd did have a fragile mindset ...Read some books about him and you will find out he actually carried a fake beard and mustache in case he lost so he could disguise himself to leave the arena,,,,he was always afraid of losing..I think he used the disguise after the first Liston fight...

I met him the first time when I was just a little kid outside a store near New Paltz NY....Then would run in to him every so often growing up....(I lived about 30 minutes from him at the time)....Then later on delt with him when he was commisioner...and Worked with Tracy at Tracy's gym when one of my amateur fighters Marcus was sparring partners with Leonard Pierre...Tracy was just as nice as Floyd was..always a gentleman

Floyd was a great man plagued by mental problems which left him with constant feelings of insufficiencey and depression.

He was a great fighter, incredibly skillful and for his size he packed a punch. Furthermore it was easily recognisable that he used his size to his advantage when in there with the heavyweights. he was so much faster than the guys he fought and really exploited guys lack of speed. The fights with Johanson were great and the only guys to really paste him outside of that series were Ali and Liston.

Liston because of the size differential easily dominated Patterson, Ali because he was bigger and of a greater size really put a hurting on the ever-game Patterson.

Patterson's illness was exposed at a hearing for the WBO i believe when he could not remember basic details in his life which was sad to hear.

Another story I read about him was that when he retired from boxing he went to the doctor because he felt unwell and the doctor basically said that he has been used to training all his life and because he has stopped that was the reason for feeling unwell and told him to stay in shape.

KO'ed Cooper and Ingemar Johansson clean, leg was quivering.

    Floyd was a nice man.
He never was unkind to anyone and was very accomodating with the public.
All of his problems were focused on himself, Feelings of inadequacy etc.

He died here in Lonord Ireland where he lived an extremely quiet life, he was rarely seen or heard.

Floyd's problems arose from his childhood, he was raise on the streets basically, very little education or parenting. It's a shame.

I watched an interview with Patterson and he said that he used to carry a disguise with him to his fights in case he lost so that he could get away from the arena without being recognised (fairly common knowledge amonst fans I would assume).

Sad that such a great fighter (you can not fail to respect the courage it must have taken to fight the monster that was Liston twice) would feel that the fans would have anything but admiration even in defeat for a fighter that gave his all in every fight.

A small fighter he may have been but this guy had a heart the size of Texas.
