    Default Just rewatched Wright-Hopkins

How the fuck did the judges score the fight the way they did? Most of the rounds were almost impossible to choose a winner of... at least 6 rounds nothing productive for either fighter landed, the first half of the fight I felt Wright for the most part was landing the better punches overall minus a few nice right hands from B-Hop, but his combinations were hardly landing at all, in the second half Bernard started picking up the pace and his punch stats, but I still had Wright outpunching him throughout the fihgt, and Bernard really wasn't landing very many hard punches for the excuse that the guy who lands harder punches wins the round. I felt Bernard won by a round, but it was really close fight I don't see how they got such huge margins between these two all in the favor of B-Hop. That leads me to the next point that I still think Winky should be near the top p4p, he IMO should have been middleweight champion after he got hte better of Jermain Taylor, he has outboxed Quartey and Trinidad(as badly as anyone has been outboxed in the history of the sport let alone a legend) he moved up to 170 and almost beat a guy has been considered a top 5 p4p fighter before the fight, and has been in the top 10 for the last half century(almost).

I agree with everything you said. It was a close fight. I thought Hopkins won. I still rank Wright in my top 10 P4P. I hope Wright can get Pavlik next because thats a great match-up IMO

I agree with the fact it was so close it was hard to score but IMO Wright deserved the nod due to the factors of him moving up and keeping Hopkins to a check point...That showed how good he is....Winky gets the shaft at times...Either guys are in no rush to fight him because even if you win you can't look good doing it,,,,or as in the Taylor bout he gets beaten by the judges

Hopkins took wawy Wrights jab by moving away, slipping or attacking in bursts which connected. Then Hopkins smothered.

Hopkins punched through or around Wright defense or timed Wright as soon as he started to punch.

After the 8th Wright didn't do much at all. From the 9th I thought Hopkins was starting to dominate. Wright was in retreat.

I thought Hopkins deserved the victory.

I think that Winky was actually doing better on the inside, in the first 9 rounds Hopkins was hardly able to counter anything on Wright, and he wasn't really able to get around Wright's guard as effectively as Quartey or Taylor were able to, which really makes me worry about his fight against Calzaghe, because I don't think he will be able to keep up with the pace Calzaghe will set.

IMO Hopkins made Wright look unbalanced, unable to land anything telling & wondering when the next attack was coming.

I thought Wright was being outsmarted at long range & bullied on the inside

I agree... If i rememebr right, I had the fight 116-111. It wasn't that close imo but of course we all score fights in different ways. I just saw Hopkins taking Wrights attributes away from Wright.

i could see the fight being scored anywhere from 117-111, 116-112 or 115-113 for hopkins as rounds were close, i don't know how anyone could have wright winning the fight, he did not do enough simple as.

i can't see how you had wright winning, Hopkins controlled the tempo, landed the harder shots, eliminated wright's jab, Halfed wrights punch output, and was better on the inside, i had never seen wright look so uncomfortable in there. Wright uses his jab and high output to win fights, he used his jab to outbox trinidad and a high output to beat Quartey, in the hopkins fight he had neither. he did throw more than hopkins but not with enough consistency to win rounds, his best success was in the middle rounds but he tired and lost the later rounds.

I had wright winning this one by a point,Looked to me like most of Bhops punches hit gloves. But i think ill re-score it later and post again. It was one of those fights i mean i watched it few times gave it to B-Hop by a point then wright then Wright again. each time by a 1 point margine.

Its easy enough for me to see Wright winning, He was landing more than Hopkins(including power punches, but HBO got that really wrong on compubox). People are saying Hopkins was landing the harder shots, but he only did so a handful of times, most of the time he wasn't even trying to throw hard punches. Sure Wright was off balance when he was coming forward, but because of his jab(which did land 30% of the time) Hopkins wasn't able to counter effectively at all, and when he actually did respond he was only able to hit Wright on the gloves, and on the inside Wright was landing the sharper blows with his straight left. I think neither of them were particularly effective, but having Hopkins up by 5 rounds is ridiculous.

It was a close fight...Like I said I gave the nod to Winky for the factors involved.....Like Jim said it all depends on how you score a fight

Hopkins won the fight, but it was horrible watching the spoiling tactics. I am sure BHop fans will say it was artistic and good ring generalship but these tactics is all that is left of a once great fighter and it will not work against Galzaghe.

Agreed on pretty much every point.

As much as people get on Wlad (me included), I can't stand to watch that BS from Hopkins. Yet a lot of the same people who bag on Wlad like Hopkins hit and hold style and that drives me up the wall.

Even though his legs didn't seem to be totally there, I think Wright won the fight and would have done it more effectively had he been in with a guy who wasn't the dirtiest fighter in the game.

This one borders on unwatchable for me because it makes me want to pull my own hair out.
