    Default Kickboxer?

Does anyone here kickbox? Is it a waste of time to practice kicking?

Waste of time? I guess it depends on what you want to do. For self defense, I'd say a properly executed kick would be more devastating to a would be attacker than a punch in most cases.

I saw a K-1 match the other night on ESPN, and I have to say, that if that winner from that match got into the ring with any boxer I've ever seen he would have given just about any boxer a run for his money. The fight was over in about 60 seconds and he was fighting a veteran with an impressive record.

i think boxers have a bit better conditions but dam thos kickboxers can do great kicks ands you do alot of strenching to make ur leg kick as high as possible . alot of kickboxers dont only get good at fighting but tis actully improving in ur athletic abilitys

ive been thaiboxing for 6 years. kicks are ovverated.
trust me, dont use them in fights. in the ring nobody can grab your good and snap your leg. in the ring nobody can punch you in the balls when your leg is up high. in the rind nobody can push you to the ground when your off balance from kicking and gouge your eyes out.
muay thai teaches valuable kicks, such as kicks to the leg. they immobalise your opponent. then you can beat the shit out of them with your hands. also mauy thai teaches elbows an knees, instant finishers. io could shatter somones scull with an elbow, and knees break ribs like matchsticks

Agreed, ive been training in all mixed martial arts, I get the base platform of boxing, then somedays we kickbox, and other days we throw in thai knees and elbows and some days jui jitsu and wrestling... so i guess you can say im a jack of all trades.... and as Danne said kicks arent really practical unless your throwing a short kick to the knee. i mean they can and will work but you have to be really good and be ready for whatever comes next

low kicks are good if you time them right, problem is thai kicks can be slow - depending how you throw them, if you stand and pivot it's quicker but the power is lower, if you are able to step out so it pivots the hip like a coil it adds power but you have to set it up.
I'd keep elbows & knees 100% people don't expect them nor do they know how to defend them. If you get grabbed round the head and you are used to boxing you tend to bend with it which is the complete opposite to what you should do (ok you can slip under I know) when you bend you eat knee.

of course kickboxing & MT are not the same although some KB'ers use knees & elbows...but that's another topic.
