Default Paul Truscott claims Commonwealth featherweight belt

Did anyone else see Paul Truscott's fight on sky last night? I didn't catch the first screening due to guests wanting to play Nintendo Wii and be sociable, but I caught the repeat at 2am, and I thought the young lad did very well indeed in the first test of his young career.

Osumanu Akaba was a better boxer than many of the Africans who often come unheralded to challenge for Commonwealth belts, who can be quite crude, but Truscott, despite not really packing much of a punch, worked throughout, and probably deserved to win, despite Akaba giving him problems at times. It was a weird performance from the Ghanaian who seemed to switch off at times, but Truscott did well and deserves a beer or two now this weekend!

As for Chris Burton, his match with Lee Swaby was a right classic, but the unbeaten guy will have bigger and harder hitting challenges in his future, and if the damage he took from Swaby is anything to go by, then he needs to improve his guard a little.

Yeah mate i watched the Truscott bout.He done the North-East proud!!It's the first time i've seen him box and i was very impressed the way he fought especially at his age and so early in his professional career. He impressed me with his combinations that he was throwing throughout the fight.I'll be watching him more often now after what i have seen of him.I watched the Chris"HighTower"Burton fight too!He used to box in the same gym as meself up here in the North-East.He's a big lad for sure.He looked a bit tired during the fight but his K.O punch that dropped Swaby was lovely!HighTower will improve i know he will.It was a great night of boxing witch i expected it would be.Some great fighters in the North-East for sure.Their done us proud!!!!

know its a little late but have only just joined the forum (so hello by the way) really enjoyed this fight more than any i've seen on tv lately. To be fair I reckon it couldve gone either way if (as has been mentioned above) akaba wouldnt have had his off rounds, it seemed like every 2 rounds his head/confidence would go. Truscott did really well especially when you consider his age and it was only his 11th pro fight he did what he had to do and kept his head. He also seemed like a really nice lad so was well happy that he won the belt.
