    Default I Miss Ike Quartey.

I used to watch Quartey quite a bit he is one of my favorites the jab is just beautiful to watch. Dunno why but i tend to like fighters with good jabs aka Holmes, Hearns, etc. But i did used to love Quartey's fighting style and i used to love watching him ripping through the Welterweights in the 90s in exciting fights with Phillips, Lopez, ODLH, he then retired for 5 years and i thought i would never see him again but he comeback and i become excited again, when he fought Forrest i thought that would be a good fight to get him right back in the picture but he got totally robbed and as Ike Quartey fan that was terrible to see and i was disgusted, then i heard the news he was going to move up to fight Wright and i knew that would end his career and it did, i doubt he will ever be back and its sad.

Yeah Ike was a good fighter and he made things interesting .

Ive never seen a better left hand at welterweight. His jab was simply awesome. As a criticism he didnt take the fight to Oscar enough IMO and I duno what he was doing vs Wright at middleweight .

I think Ike vs Mosley and Ike vs Tito would have been great fights 10 years ago.

I miss him too, there are still some great match-ups out there for him but I fear he has been away to long now to capitalize.

Side note: when I 1st saw the Forrest/ Quartey fight live I thought Ike had won, but since then I've watched it about 6 times & every time I score it for Forrest

Ditto in regards to Forrest taking it in hindsight,Forrest was stunning him with tight uppercuts and accuracy.

Inactivity was a major factor,Gaps in between fights. Seemed distracted and I don't think we ever had a chance to see in "Completion" .....what might have been?

I miss the whole Quartey, Whitaker, Trinidad, Delahoya, Lopez era of welterweights.
I wonder how boxing history would have been different if Quartey was given the decision against De la hoya, which I thought he deserved. Exciting era but could have been so much better if they all had fought each other like Leonard, Duran, Hearns etc.

You probably appreciate a fighter with a good jab because that is the foundation of a good fighters arsenal.

I liked Ike too. I thought the Forrest decision was bullshit (obviously), of ourse my man Winky bested him......but its Winky. He beats almost everyone. I still think he would be a top ten his division.

Winky was just too for Ike. Ike moving up in weight vs a guy who fought his last fight at heavyweight just wasnt strong enough and his power had no impact just like when Tito fought Jones. The knockdowns were bogus though .

Wright has a decent jab himself but I think he met someone with a superior jab in Ike. It didnt show that night but if it were Winky boiling down to welter instead of the other way round. I think Ikes speed would have told. Duno if he would have won but it would have been competetive.
