    Talking Omfg.....

Juan Lazcano - "If There's Someone Out There Who Can Beat Floyd Mayweather, It's Juan Lazcano!"

Juan Lazcano - "If There's Someone Out There Who Can Beat Floyd Mayweather, It's Juan Lazcano!"

by James Slater: This Saturday, in the city of Manchester, against Ricky Hatton, 33-year-old Juan Lazcano will be engaging in his first fight for fifteen months. Yet in a recent interview with Sky Sports, the Mexican/American believes his best days are still in front of him and that he is destined for greatness. Being older at age 33 and not having won a fight since 2006 are not factors that concern Lazcano..

"I know I am a little older. I turned 33 this year but it's a symbolic meaningful year for me being that my birthday fell on Easter Sunday," Lazcano said. "You'll be like, 'Ok, so what?,' well, I turned 33 and there was actually a resurrection within my being."

Readers will have gathered the fact by now that Lazcano is a very religious and spiritual person. Juan went on to speak further about his faith in Jesus.

"I am a spiritual person, I believe in Jesus Christ," Lazcano continued. "I believe in the power of the resurrection and I believe that power is within me and I will use that power to move forward and make the most of a wonderful opportunity."

Not the first fighter to be hugely religious, nor certainly the last, Lazcano truly feels he is on the way to the finest moments of an already notable boxing career. Juan certainly believes his best days await him in the ring.

"I've evolved not only as a person and I just think that more than anything, it's a mental thing," the 33-year-old stated. "I'm ready to enter the promised land. I'm ready for greatness now. I'm taking this challenge [the Hatton fight] seriously, the best fighter will win and believe me, I am the best fighter. I'm an athlete and a professional fighter and I'm coming to fight. Ricky Hatton is a truly great warrior and it's an honour for me to fight a great warrior. I'm a gentleman as well and I acknowledge if someone has a tremendous heart like Ricky Hatton, so it's an honour for me to do battle with him."

Lazcano, as honoured as he is to be facing Hatton, also feels he will one day face current pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

"For so long Floyd Mayweather was there, for so long Floyd Mayweather was there and for some reason the fight never came about. Floyd knows it too - if there is someone out there who can beat him, believe me, it's Juan Lazcano."

Let's see what happens on Saturday night before anyone looks at a possible Mayweather-Lazcano fight. But something tells me Ricky Hatton just might have his hands full at the weekend.

Apart from the ridiculous mayweather statement ive been nothing but impressed with this guy.

The interviews he has given sky, setanta, bbc and nearly every broadsheet in the uk.

I feared a washed up pro coming over for a retirement nest egg and he has proven not to be so. He comes across as a determained pro that wants to grab his big opportunity and is willing to go to any lengths to do so.

I honestly envisage a tough night for ricky that could turn really sour if he allows lazcano to get any sort of rhythm going and force ricky to fight on the defensive.

the 13/2 on offer is looking more and more tasty by the day.

14/1 on a lazcano decision has gotta be worth a wildcard punt surely??

Think you`ll find many many fighters within a similar situation would "bleat" on about the ref much more than hatton ever did. What do you think mayweathers reaction would of been had the ref allowed hatton to constantly trade on the inside and duck every time floyd went to hit him

    Avoid witter??

Hatton loathes witter and doesnt wanna see the guy earn his biggest pay day by fighting him. Hatton also realises that a witter fight could potentially be a nest egg for him to retire on and before anybody claims im contradicting myself may i point out that at no particular point in hattons career has witter been a mandatory contender to any of his belts!!

if he loathed him when not beat him who cares if he gets money for it or not as long as you prove your point and hurt him good

    oh ye floyd would moan

however kostya was fouled alot against hatton and never said a bad word about him afterwards i was glad tszyu was beaten that night but we all know it wasnt the fairest of fights so you cant play double standards

A wbc belt means shit. when your considered number1 by ring magazine your number 1. People have held versions of world championships before and not even been in the top 15 rankings.

Hatton-Castillo didnt fight because there was an IBF light welterweight title up for grabs. They fought because they were recognised as the best 2 fighters in the division.

    As for hatton-tszyu:

it was one of those old fashioned slugfests that BOTH men were happy to be apart of. Of course your going to get the odd low blow or head trade. Thats what those kind of fights are all about!!

so hattons happy playing prison rules as long as he wins

and thinking bout as you said floyd would moan also look at when low blowed and rabbit punched him who was the only person involved with the fights that didnt go nuts - floyd he was calm and didnt complain and didnt try to get revenge by fouling back

castillo was shot to pieces and im not saying he should have thought witter then

but now instead of lazcano as he was one of the best in the division till he was beat by bradley

Since you put so much weight on it (and I'm feeling petty) Witter was no.1 contender to Hatton's ring belt.

honestly 140 doesn't have any dominant champion at the moment or any fighter that can actually step up and say i'm the best in the division, it's actually got a few good fights in there, so it'll be interesting who can step it up, Torres, Holt, Witter (even though he just lost embarrassingly), Hatton, Lazcano, Urango, Forbes, D. Hopkins, and then there are the fighters that can move up in weight J. Diaz, Casamayor, Katsidis, it's lookin like a good division :P

I say that, what can you say. A fighter's gotta have self-confidence I guess. Still slightly hard to believe that even he thinks that.
