That's the latest I've heard. Says alot about them really. We get one for De La Hoya v Forbes but not for the biggest fight of the year?
BTW,I hope you guys are well! I miss you all, I've been so busy with work and other things,don't get time to come online but I always check on you guys, even as a guest! Thanks to all the guys repping me,you know who you are, appreciate it greatly! |

i think they only did the ODH forbes countdown cuz its a lead in to the mayweather fight and cuz they wanted to make a big deal about how ODH was on regular HBO for the first time in a long time
im pretty sure that they usually only do countdowns for PPVs

I don't think that the language is an excuse. There are always translators and that dude with his dramatic narrative voice will get people interested. This is a massive fight which deserves as much build-up as possible. Especially as the winner will be looking for a shot against Floyd Mayweather! Floyd's excuse for not fighting Cotto is that he doesn't bring enough of a fan base for a mega-money bout. HBO aren't exactly helping to put that excuse to rest.
They should absolutely do a countdown for this fight. It's insane not to. |

I'm sure that they will do one. They do one for every PPV show, and they will do one for what they consider to be a "special event" free show.
HBO benefits from these shows, because they help sell the event, thus more PPV buys, resulting in more money for them.
They've had Cotto in 2 already (Judah & Mosley), and they've done shows where they had to use translators (Marquez & Morales), so I don't see whether or not they speak any, or good English, being a factor.

IMO they must have this countdown , this will put more interesting the fight , i dont think that HBO dont doing this because Cotto and Margaro dont speak or dont speak very well the English language , previously HBO had make a countdown with others Latin boxers and if we see Cotto had improve a bit in speak the Language , he can make it like in the countdown with Mosley and HBO can translate for Magerito , HBO make the countdown for all Stellar Fights .....................

This is a great fight for hardcore fans BUT probably wont appeal much to casual fans.
I'm pretty sure all-Latino fights are not very good sellers (they don't do the numbers the fights deserve). Margarito is unknown outside the hardcore. Cotto, although brilliant inside the ropes, is a bore outside.
Maybe you guys are right about the langugue not being a barrier.. Considering this type of fight needs selling.

he language barriar wouldn't be to much of an issue... Cotto would speak english most of the time and translators would take care of Tony...
It would mostly be their back stories and their training camp... I am actually pretty upset about this...
I couldn't care less if they were mute. although I know their stories already I want to see acountdown!
