It's incredibly difficult to pick a winner here.

    Calzaghe cannot go on forever.

It's hard to pick a winner, but no matter what the outcome (unless Joe C gets KO'd early - not likely) both people, winner and loser, come out of this looking good. If Pavlik loses and makes it close, a la Mikkel Kessler, his stock won't really drop much because Calzaghe is future hall of famer, a two division Ring champ, and I believe Pavlik would me mentally strong enough to handle the loss and pick come out just as strong. If Calzaghe wins, he cements his legacy by beating a young, undefeated lineal champ. That would look very nice on his resume to go with Kessler and Hopkins. If Joe looses, he goes out on his shield and he'll get credit for taking the riske late in his career. Some might use it to discredit Calzaghe, but those will the be people who don't know anything about boxing.

If Joe loses to anyone I hope it's Pavlik, he's great for the sport.

Yeah agreed I think Pavlik is the best opponent win or lose for Calzaghe to bow out on. Hard one to call.

The more time that passes, the more it favours Pavlik. It's really tough to call and depends how much Calzaghe has left, he's had to do without his power for the last few years and now his speed is gradually leaving him, IMO he needs to work on getting himself in better shape than the Hopkins fight and get the bounce back in his legs by forcing himself to work to make 168. JC can win if he works behind his jab and doesn't carried away, and be ready to use his footwork to get away at times, as a big fan of JC this is not a fight I'm truly confident he'll win.

Thumbs up Re: pavlik vs calzaghe "arum wants calzaghe"

What a tough match to predict! However, it would be a great one! These are two guys that just don't give up. They both have such great charisma, in and out of the ring. The toughest aspect of this fight would be..."who do I want to win"? Two great fighters equals one great fight! Only time will tell!

Enzo Calzaghe should be worried by this news.

Vegas odds on this should be interesting.

Calzaghe better grow his beard extra thick for this fight. Unkike the Lacy fight, i'm sure Pavlik will actually land a few hard ones.

    How tasty

This will be a huge fight. As alot have said, it's hard to pick a winner. I think early on is when Calzaghe will control the fight, and frustrate Kelly. It's in the later rounds IMO that Calzaghe might get in trouble. Eventually Kelly lands something and Joe may get tired; as Kelly will throw a hell of alot more punches than Hopkins did{whether they land or not is yet to be seen}. Probably will go to the cards, and I would have to pick Calzaghe if it does. Good fight though.

Don't count your chickens everyone. In the only fight I can remember where Pavlik fought a southpaw (McKart), he only had like a 22% connect ratio and got tagged quite a bit. Now that was quite a while ago, but he has not faced a southy since.

McKart is crafty yes, but Joe is more so. There are a lot of intangibles in this fight. I would not write off Joe yet.

I said a while ago,I'd fancy Joe,and I still do. A number of reasons, th southpaw stance, the versatility, the angles he'll give Pavlik. I think it'll trouble Kelly, because he plants his feet so firmly when throwing his shots,he'll need to keep turning and won't be able to get set.

On the other hand,Kelly's jab may get to Joe and Kelley's power can change a fight. The jab would be the key,if he could land it enough early on,it could give him some rhythm for the fight.

Either way, this would be a trmendous fight and event. The unbeaten 160 pound unified champ v the true 168 and 175 champ! WOW!!
