Welcome to Saddo boxing buddy.. Certainly hanging around here also will have a good influence on you.. There are a lot of good guys on here who can motivate you and point you in the right direction..
Even though there are certainly many better ways of getting fit that playing boxing on the Wii, it sounds like your fitness has already improved a bit since starting.. So I don't see why it's not a good start...
Keep playing for longer until you reach a point where you feel you've gotten as much out of the game as you can in regards to fitness, then move onto Shadow Boxing (practicing punching, stance, defence, movement while on your own. Usually in front of a mirror)
I think there is a sticky thread near the top of this board somewhere which will point you to some basics.. Check out how the basic stance works, then check out how to hold your arms, and throw your basic punches. Start with the jab and straight right and maybe add in hooks after a little bit. Also then you can look up slipping which is how to avoid punches...
Looking up and learning the real basics is a great start.. It'll get you up out of your seat and moving your body around... Just working on the proper footwork to move left and right, and throw jabs while your doing that can get you pretty tired after 5 or 10 minutes..
So I think the wii boxing is a great start for you if you don't usually move around to much... It's a great doorway to learning a bit about boxing.. It's a very good sport to get yourself in good shape, even without competing..
Finally if you really get determined to move up a little bit, try buying a skipping rope... It's probably the one tool that will get you in shape almost faster than anything else.. It's a killer at the start, you might only be able to do 20 seconds before stopping (once you get used to the rhythm of it and can actually do 20 seconds without nearly tripping over)..
Anyway this was probably much more of an answer than your looking for, but I guess it doesn't matter how you get into boxing, you've come to the right place, and you only have up to go from here..
