Oscar made Mayorga look worse, it wasn't because Mayorga came in better against Mosley. I am not talking about the fact that Oscar ko'ed him earlier as much as Oscar was much better defensively against Mayorga, his movement was better, he actually had a jab to control Mayorga's offense, he was countering better.

Obviously he hit harder as well, but in terms of who was landing cleaner shots, while not getting hit by clean shots, Oscar wins hands down. That has nothing to do with size. Oscar beat Mayorga more emphatically than Trinidad as well who is larger than Oscar.

Also lets look at Mosley-COllazo, before Collazo broke his hand it sure looked close. He was matching Mosley's speed, and he was countering him, but as soon as he broke that left hand he stopped throwing any punches which Emmanuel commented on the whole night. Mosley looked good that night, but against Cotto I don't think he looked good at all. Cotto outtimed him, outpunched him, and was the better man. The only credit I gave Mosley was that he has his invulnerability and he walked through a few halacious punches, and he land that right hand which is the one punch he has managed to retain.

Personally, I have never found Mosley to be as good as everyone has. I think he was a gifted athlete who was tought poorly how to fight, and that his athletic ability more than his skills have continued to push him through. I think if he had, had a less granite chin, he wouldn't have achieved half of what he did north of the lightweight division.
Wow. Sound like you are describing one of your man-crushes Roy Jones Jr, except replace "granite chin" with "god-like reflexes." But you rate Jones as the greatest ever and you think Mosley is overrated. I don't get it. Both are great fighters with one fatal flaw, and Roy's gets him KO'd while Shane's gets him beat on a UD. And I don't mean Roy's chin, I mean he leaving his chin open when he throws the left hook. I guess you prefer incredible athletes that talk a lot of trash and don't take risks with their careers more than incredibly talented athletes who are willing to fight the best available opponents.

you can not call a fighter purly on one fight. We would have to see what shane looks like in his next fight to really see what has happened to him. there is a very very good chance that this was a one off bad fight for mosley.

Whos to say that he just didn't really bother for Mayorga 'coz he thought he would walk right through him? you see it time and time again in world class fighters, fighting a gimmi fight to stay busty and look good, Mayorga was hand picked so obviously they figured Shane would have very few problems, he may of trained physicaly to look good, but how much work did he do training for the actualy guy he was fighting?

We wont know until his next fight, if he looks good and does well yes you could argue it may off been mayorgas style, but i would put it down to bad prep work for the fight and not respecting him enough. If he looks bad in his next fight, then he has just aged to much for the sport.

Does anyone know how much Mayorga weighed come fight night against De La Hoya? If they both came in at 160 I think Mayorga would get taken out sooner.
    Oops

If you're judging them on how they both dealt with Mayorga you can't argue with a 6 round pasting ODLH gave him More people should have talked smack to him before his fights.

Other thoughts. SM looked small & his timing was off (that could have due to rm looking to rough him up) then somehow it started to come together in round 11 & he was able to start landing those right hands. Could have been fatigue or over confidence from Mayorga.
