Default I must say I have gained some respect of E. Steward

I always hated him for his blatant favoritism, and hating, but I must say, the more I look past
Him dissing Mayweather every fight, saying the jab is the end all, be all of boxing, how great Thomas Hearns, Hagler, and Leonard... yadayada

The more I gain appreciation for the fact he does know whats going on in the ring. I think he underestimates all modern fighters(except the guys he has trained, or the guys who have beaten the guys he has trained) to a degree, but at least he sees what is landing, and what isn't, he seems quite good at predicting what will happen as the fight goes on (especially in Cotto-margarito and Kessler-Calzaghe).

Anyways he is now among my top 5 analysts based on how knowledgable of the sport they are
    1.Gil Clancy
    2. Roy Jones Jr
    3. Teddy Atlas
    4. Al Bernstein
    5. Emanuel Steward

So I still think he is biased as hell, but people should be listening to him, and not Lampley or Merchant if they want to learn a thing or two about the sport.

All have an understanding of what is going on in the ring, I think that's what I have the best understanding of too. Not exactly sharp exactly on history and all that, certainly not compared to others but I do think I have a pretty good idea of what is going on in the ring. Love the technical aspect of it all. I think Manny has a grip of it too I agree. I don't think I'm bothered by commentators unless they are just ridiculous, like the Versus commentators, not Farhood the other one. Manny is good at pointing out the finer technical aspects of the fight in real time, Atlas isn't really so good at that imo and dwells far to much on physical advantages imo. Not that he doesn't have an understanding but it doesn't translate to real time imo.

So I agree, I also think Howard Cossell was very good at pointing out what was working for a fighter and what wasn't.

I always felt Cossell was a casual sports fan, I never really felt he knew really what was going on. I think in contrary to what you are saying is that Atlas seems to really see what is going on, but he is so annoying it almost counteracts all the knowledge he is imparting.

Maybe, I listen to headphones half the time Atlas is on but he seems to just dwell so much on his pre-fight points so much over the course of the fight that he never really gets going and it's always, he has the longer arms he needs to be outside, ect. Talks way to much about the geography of the ring instead of what is actually happening imo, just sometihng I've noticed.

I think Cossell was great and is one of the few guys I can actually stand to listen to if he calls the fight alone. He had a very good understanding of the sport his technical analysis was spot on almost all of the time, it's just he didn't offer it all that much.

I think a lot of Michigan-based trainers don't like the Mayweathers in general. I interviewed a guy out of Lincoln Park and he had nothing flattering to say about the Mayweather women.

Manny is great and a legend, even if he is a bit of a boxing consultant nowadays.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
