Default Paul Williams vs Carlos Quintana 3

Paul"The Punisher"Williams fought Carlos Quintana on February 9, 2008 in his first defense of his title.Williams was out boxed by the challenger Quintana throughout and lost by decision.Months later Williams and Quintana had a rematch at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut on June 7, 2008 for the WBO welterweight title.Williams got off to a quick start when a left hand sent Quintana into a daze as several follow-up barrages put Quintana down. He got up, but Williams opened up with dozens of unanswered punches as the referee jumped in to stop the fight while Quintana was going down again. If their were to be a third fight (again IF) Who would win? do you think if Quintana managed to avoid the big shots early/not look for a knockout and survive the first round, he'd be able to pick up the pattern of the first fight and win by another Ud.Or would Williams not let that happen and do what he did in the second fight?

Provided he can avoid getting knocked out, Quintana would win on points again. Aside from sitting down more on his punches, Williams looks the same to me. His defense is weak and he's a sucker for the straight left

I dont see williams going back to 147,but Quintana wrote the blue print on how to box and beat him.If Williams keeps getting hit as much as he did Vs.Quintana 1 at 154 and higher, its only a matter of time before it catches up to him for a loss.

paul does still look to be the same fighter, he likes to fight short and that really is his downfall. If he used his reach to his advantage and had a better defense he'd be almost unbeatable. he does have a great chin and great workrate so I do think on his best night he beats anyone from 147-154. I think he'd take quintana in a third fight, not a quick knockout but outwork him while getting hit plenty himself.

I tend to think Paul's own assessment of the first fight, that he was just having a bad night, is mostly the right one. In particular he was not able to establish his jab. I agree with what has been said about not using his height and reach to their greatest advantage, and that his D is not so great. However, his offense is a good part of his defense and when his work rate is high and esp. when he establishes his jab, he out lands his opponents by a large margin.

I think he would KO Quintana again, but probably later in the fight.

"Aside from sitting down on his punches?" You say that as if it were a minor thing?

That's precisely why Williams would win via knockout in a third meeting. He has learned how to use his length better (not perfectly, but better) which is what set up the knockout in the second fight. Williams was lethargic and out of it the first fight and that's the only reason he lost. He's beat Quintana 9 times out of 10.

Williams wins easy for me. He took quintana too lightly first time around. He'd also beat Marg again in a rematch.
