    Default Carlorie King

I found this site and am going to use to get myself in better "health." I would have said better shape, but that makes me sound like a whale shark. I'm not.

CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more

Not sure what good it will be to non americans, but it covers all the food joints in the US and it's worth checking out.

    Same here.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

If you want/need some kind of a program to follo, Calorie King looks pretty good. When I decide to "shape up" I find that getting scientific about food and stuff, counting calories and all, is kind of boring, and so I don't stick to it, but that's just me. Sure it is good to know calories, but being regimental about it bores me. A little common sense goes a long way, cut down on cheeseburgers, wings, fries, and pizza, yes even beer , eat more of the good stuff.

One thing I do find interesting is that a large number of foods that are promoted as healthy alternatives are in fact not all that good for you. Granola bars for example. Some fast food veggie sandwhiches are another example.

It also pays to compare fast food joints. I think you will find that a McDonalds burger has quite a bit less calories than a Burger King burger for example.

    Good luck with the program.

It's still good to know calories though, personally though I found that if when I'm craving carbs i eat as much fruit until it stops it allows me to keep the weight in check.

right.. CGM, counting calories with this tool may not be your main use of weight gain or whatever you're trying to achieve, it's more of just a bare bone guide to what you're putting in your body..

a lot of people my age (23) don't really have the time to get groceries at a specific time every week, or cook food at all.. i eat out A LOT, and i normally just eat when i'm hungry throughout the day and it's a good reference to choose the lesser of two evils as often as i do..

if i'm close to a taco bell and i want a burrito, i can see that if i order it fresco style it's 50% less of all the bad stuff for the most part, so i'll make that decision. i normally wouldn't have done that without a reference giving me the knowledge as i never even knew this type of thing was offered.. i know it sounds stupid but it's just one situation i've been in where it's helped..

you say "common sense goes a long way" and i think that this book/reference helps you DEVELOP that common sense.. as opposed to a "program" where you're eating the exact recipe or the exact weekly provided food just because the specific diet says so.

fair enough. On second look at the website I see it not so much a program but a handy quick reference, like you say useful for building up that sense of what's going into your body.

    Silverback,
You know I got your back man....

95% of the game is mental IMO.

Not sure if you know or read on here or maybe I told you but I went up to 205 lbs. at one point late last year. I got really out of shape and was eating just about anything that was set in my face.

I realized that if I didn't make a change I was going straight for becoming obesse. I started working out and changed my eating habits.

    WE ALL LOVE ICE CREAM.
WE ALL LOVE LUCKY CHARMS OR FROSTED FLAKES.

You can have all that but you have to have it moderated and not all the time.

What I found out is that when I wake up and think of what I want to have for breakfast I find myself thinking of pancakes, egg, pork links.
But when I wake up and just go to the kitchen poor some oat meal, wash some grapes, and apple and pour a glass of OJ without thinking about it.
I give myself NO time to think about pancakes, eggs and all that.

So you see if you can just DO IT and mentally set yourself to where your not thinking about all the greasy food you'll eat whatever you've set.
Sometimes you have to fight it, but fighting for your health should be something that you should be willing to do.

About 2 weeks ago my girl and I were here at my place and she got hungry. She then tells me I want In-N-Out (famous burger place out here)
I was like your gonna send me to In-N-Out knowing my ass can't be eating that? So I said fine I'll be back so I was hungry too, I get to In-N-Out and I order her food and then paused for a second and I ordered something for me... Then I quickly told the guy to cancel it.
You see I was having a battle in my mind with myself.
Part of me was saying it's just a burger, you haven't eaten a burger in about 4 months so 1 burgers not gonna kill you.
All this happened as I ordered the food.
Well I walked out with my girls food and drove my ass to Sub-Way and bought a Cold Cut Trio sandwhich.

So you see a split second changed weather I'd eat it the burger or not, but AGAIN its not really that burger vs. sandwhich that you have to look at.
It's the fact that would I have given in to the battle next time around I would have said "Well I ate a burger last week, I'll just have some pizza this time" and little by little I'd break down.

Anyway... Good luck Sonny and keep me updated.
