Jones punches, Calzaghe slaps. There's no comparison there.

obviously the lighter guys are gonna have faster hands than the middle, heavy fighters - but if your talking all round in general id still have to say mosley has the fastest ive seen
Yeah, I have no problem going along with this statement.

Roy had way faster hands than Joe. Meldrick Taylor and Hector Camacho Sr (before he was ruined by Edwin Rosario) were both faster. Ray Leonard had unbelievably fast hands when he was coming up through the welterweight ranks after the Olympics. Hell, I remember Ricardo Lopez as having incredibly fast hands and reaction time in his prime, and Roy was about as fast.

The 1-2 that Roy dropped Reggie Johnson with was one of the fastest two-punch combinations I have ever seen. Roy was way faster than Joe, but Roy was not as fast as prime Meldrick Taylor.

The only person who I can think of as being definitely faster than Taylor was Eddie Cook. He was fighting Israel Contreras for the WBA bantamweight title and his hands were so fast I almost couldn't see them land. The guy was unbelievable.
Eddie Cook did have fast hands. But the fastest hands i ever seen belong to Ed Hopson. Nobody could match his hand speed.
Very true but Jones' were all power punches which was what made his speed so unique.

There is a video clip of Jones in training throwing about 25 hard shots in 5 seconds on a floor to ceiling bag. If I can find it I'll post it. It's amazing!

To get back to the point of the thread, Jones' handspeed is p4p the fastest I've ever seen so obviously far faster than Calzaghe.
And that was an old Roy Jones too

YouTube - Roy Jones Jr. Training

Does the combo at the 6:10 mark
I know it was an oldish Jones. Thats why I'd love to see just how fast he could have punched around his MW and SMW days. For me he seemed (strange as it seems) to get faster when he moved up from LMW.

Thats it I'm off to watch his career box set again!

Roy p4p was the fastest. A lot of people may disagree but I think Yurioukis Gamboa is the fastest handed fighter of the 2000's.

Say it would be a tie between Mosley,Taylor and Jones i seen alot of there stuff they dont seem far apart even pound for pound feel there close and also Ali has to be up there as well because for a heavyweight that man was very fast not mention Leonard has to be close as well.

When you say fast hands are you talking about pot shoting one punch thrown or are we talking about combos that are thrown fast and such.

Ali def. deserves a mention anyone seen training footage of him will tell you.

As soon as I read the headline of this post I thought of Meldrick Taylor. Unreal handspeed and all solid shots. The only other guy who has a reasonable argument is RJJ. Roy is something hard to define. A guy his size with those reflexes. He is a freak of nature. No exaggeration. P4P, RJJ has no competition in handspeed. Even without the p4p crap, RJJ is at worst 2nd in handspeed all time. Old school Ike Williams had amazing speed too. Mosley, Mayweather, Berto, etc. these guys are fast but not even in the same plane as Meldrick Taylor or RJJ. Roy is the guy who started the left hook lead because his freakish speed made up for technical flaws that would not work long for anyone else. Mayweather stole that left hook lead. And as one guy posted, that 1-2 RJJ landed on Reggie Johnson was unpreventable. You couldn't prepare for it in real speed. He hit Reggie with a left then right then backed up admiring his work and getting out of range of a possible counter before Reggie even started to fall. It was sick.

I think Mosley was close in his prime he could throw combos with great speed and i think Leonard not that far off as well watch some video and so while i been while since i seen a prime Molsey fight and while since i seen a prime Leonard fight as well but from what i remeber they were just as fast and they could use it to pot shot and throw great combos as well.

Floyd Patterson easily for me. You watch the rematches with Ingemar Johanssen.Floyd Patterson's punches move so quick you blink you miss 3 punches it was insane. It's just that he was so small he had to hit you with a thousand times before you'd budge. A great fantasy match-up would have been with Marciano. They just missed each other do to Rocky retiring and some have mentioned because of Floyd.

Another Cus D'Amato special that no one mentioned is Mike Tyson. I can't believe it.

Also you have to put the man on that list Sugar Ray Robinson

Mighty Mike has been mentioned and so has Sugar Ray Robinson.

Ricardo Lopez, Cassius Clay, Manny Pacquiao, Chad Dawson, Henry Armstrong, James Toney has fast hands on the inside and Paul Williams is pretty fast also.
