Froch is far less worried about getting hit than Pavlik and would just wade in regardless. Unless Hopkins knocked him out he'd find it hard going in the late rounds and resort to holding, low blows and rough house tactics to stay in the fight.
You guys are seriously underating Froch and overatting Hopkins at this stage in his career. Yes he's a tough guy to beat still at 43 but he doesn't have the stamina and legs of old and could deteriorate quickly now.
It's no coincidence that his two biggest wins in his old years against Tarver and Pavlik cooincided with both of these fighters giving the worst performances of their careers.
If Hopkins and Pavlik fought again at 168 and Pavlik was healthy, I'd pick him over Bernard also.
Pavlik did nothing because Hopkins used a basic fundamental called lateral movement.
Pavlik may of looked like a monster in his previous fights before Bhop but it all comes down to the fact that they were straight in front of him, there to be hit.Taylor exposed Kelly a little bit when he used lateral movement in the second fight, The thing is Taylor isn't really the best boxer/counter puncher and has never had the best stamina, which is why Kelly was able to edge the fight out late on.
Froch has nothing that Hopkins hasn't seen before.
His defense is awful and his workrate and chin aren't what they are made out to be.
If you think Froch can win by wadeing in your are sadly mistaken, Hopkins doesn't need to discourage Froch with power ( even though personally i think it would) because i know his sneaky counter shots, great defense and rough inside tactics would do it. Power isn't the only thing that can discourage a fighter.
I'm not suggesting Froch would beat a prime Hopkins, or even a Hopkins of a year or two ago, but he's 44. At some point he's going to have a sudden decline, his training and lifestyle won't matter you can't beat the ageing process.
If a fight were to happen between the two realisitcally it would be in the summer at the earliest, maybe towards the end of the year and he would be practically 45.
Froch is young, strong, hungry and dangerous. All the skill in the world won't matter if your body gives up.
If they did fight and I had to put money on it, my money would be on Froch.
And not just Froch, I'd pick Bute and Kessler over him too, plus Dawson.
He's not going to be able to go on forever, its simply impossible and at nearly 45 his decline may come quickly.
