Default Floyd Sr. talking about Ricky Hatton and more...

link --> Floyd Sr. talking about Ricky Hatton and more...

PC: Have you talked to Ricky Hatton?

Floyd Sr: No! Uh, uh! We haven't had no conversation. They tried to make me look like the bad guy because I left the ring early. I'm not going to stand over nobody and look at somebody sleep. I'm not no paramedic man. It was nothing I could do about it. What would I get out of standing there and looking at him in that condition? I don't know what happened, but I'm just now getting my money. I should have been got it about 10 days after the fight. It took much longer for me to get it, but I did get it. Ricky Hatton ain't doing no good man.

PC: I know you think he should retire.

Floyd Sr: Yeah he should. He fought the top 2 guys and he got knocked out both times. There is nothing left for him to do. He won the championship twice, so ain't nothing left for him to do but retire. He got enough money to live the rest of his life.

PC: Are you excited to see Lil Floyd back in the ring and fighting again?

Floyd Sr: Yeah. I'm going to be helping Lil Floyd out here and there. Me and Lil Floyd alright now. I'm going to go back into town and help out a little.

PC: What kind of fight do you think Marquez will pose against Lil Floyd?

Floyd Sr: I think he's going to pose a target. I think he's going to get hit with everything. I've been seeing Lil Floyd down there already and he's looking real good.

PC: So he hasn't looked like he lost much in his layoff?

Floyd Sr: Well, you know, everybody lose something in a layoff; I don't care who you are, but he hasn't lost nothing like that. He's still sharp, still clever and he's beating everybody down. He's beating there brains out down there. Floyd is looking good.

PC: A lot of people think Manny Pacquiao is unbeatable right now. Would you agree with that?

Floyd Sr: He ain't no unbeatable fighter man, believe me. Lil Floyd going to stop him. Watch what I tell you.

PC: You said that with Hatton too.

Floyd Sr: We ain't dealing with no Ricky Hatton now. This the real deal. This is a different monster here. Ricky had the knowledge, but he wasn't the athlete to pull out the strategy. This is an entirely different monster.

Probably a fair amount of truth in that.

Ricks biggest mistake was taking him on imo. He was mugged off. The guy was simply unprofessional, anybody that saw 24/7 would have seen it for themselves.

...and the whole merry-go-round that comes with a Hatton fight.

Any trainer would have made an impact with Ricky post Billy Graham. Simply because Ricky knew within himself that he was ready for some new challenges. To freshen things up. He had the right mindset - he was willing to learn.

I accept that Ricky is his own worst enemy, that he sees 'the red mist' far too often and he's partial to a Lamb Biriyani...but no way can Floyd walk away from this thinking he's the teflon kid, nah, not havin' it.

Yeah but in the end it wasn't Floyd fault Hatton lost the fight. Floyd Sr said it best, Ricky had the knowledge. But he pissed it away by slugging with Pacquiao. Ricky has no one to blame but himself for that.

I accept that. But for me, Ricky reverted to type much earlier than in previous fights (it always happens, lets face it)...and that was as a result of the fact he went into the ring feeling under prepared due to the poor camp.

......annnnnd I'm not saying Ricky would of won the fight if the prep was different, before anyone jumps on it, simply that Floyd has to accept he was complicit in the manner of the loss. Which he won't

For me, the blame is squarely at Hatton's feet, no one else's. Not Floyd Sr, not Lee Beard, not Billy Graham. Hatton showed no respect to Pacquaio's punching power & thought he could walk through it. He didn't listen to what he was told post-fight & in the corner after the 1st round, and the brand new Ricky we'd been promised & seen a bit of against Malignaggi was obviously still in the dressing room. The attempt to blame Floyd Sr is typical of both the Hatton Camp & those at SkySports who like nothing better than acting as a loudspeaker for Team Hatton to go on about how 'it wasn't Ricky's fault, it was illness/Joe Cortez/Billy Graham/Floyd Mayweather Sr'

Let me put it this way - if Ricky had of caught Manny cold and won...would Snr have taken any credit?

Not really the issue. If Ricky had respected Manny a bit more & fought sensibly how Floyd Sr had told him to & THEN got KO'd, then it would be easy to put the blame on him. However, he fought like a pub drunk & got beaten down like one, so the blame is all on Ricky

elements of that are spot on and hattons naivety that night was there for all to see.

It wasnt a good match and was destined to fail right from the start. You cant teach an old dog new tricks and hatton is never going to be the kind of slick mover someone like floyd snr is used to training.

Biggest hatton mistake was not keeping graham on under some sort of capacity

It's exactly the issue. It's all well and good saying 'this is what you need to do' but it's all moot unless the weeks proceeding it have the required substance. Is it not the trainers job to ensure a fighter is properly prepared?

Would a smooth training camp have yielded a different result...I doubt it but that's not where I'm coming from. My point is that Floyd is trying to disassociate himself from his responsibility and it's shocking that people are taking him at face value.

Moreover, you and I know Floyd would be taking credit if Ricky had caught Manny. So, why is he not standing tall now?

We can't blame Floyd Sr. of Ricky's brutal KO loss but Sr. behaviour/actions during fight build up, training camp and during fight night were not praiseworthy either... Coming in late in training camp then on fight night, coming late again and then left early when Ricky still on the canvass... Where's your respect and professionalism Mr. Sr.??
