Khan fight this weekend got me thinking about fighters who were sucsessfull even thought they did not hold a shot to well.
Tommy Hearnes comes to mind.
If he had a better chin he might have been the greatest fighter of all time.

Balls
Terry Norris
Tommy Hearns is the obvious one, but I don't think even if he had a better chin that he would've been the best of all time.
RJJr
I actually think at Welterweight his chin wasn't that bad, it was more his stamina that let him down against SRL. Anyway back on topic.
Floyd Patterson comes to mind straight away, but maybe im being a bit unfair on him. Considering he was really too small for Heavyweight.
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."
- and I quote from some random guy on the internet
as soon as I read the thread title I knew people would be starting with the Lennox lewis nonsense...

He's a heavyweight for god's sake... yes he has two KO losses but if a 220 pound man hits anybody clean on the chin and they don't see it coming then they will get knocked out.
The two shots that got him were pretty massive. The glass jaw chin is basically a story/fallacy spread about him by people who haven't seen much, if any of his fights besides:
a) The Tyson fight
b) The Knockouts
Bruno hit him with some MASSIVE punches.
As for Roy Jones Junior, that's debatable... who had decent punch resistance... tarver caught him right on the button with a massive punch he didn't see coming, again - if a light heavyweight hits you flush then you'll know about it.
The Johnson knock out was the result of a sustained beating.
I don't think Roy had a great chin or anything but it is underrated to say the least.
and Lewis' chin is ridiculously underrated.
Kinda depends on what you mean - a guy that gets buzzed alot or a guy who's chin let him down. Guy like Gatti and Corrales got hurt in a bunch of there fights but always seemed to fight back. Both got knocked down plenty but I think both were only counted out once each late in there careers.
I never seen Lewis get really buzzed in a fight but he did get KO'd twice so who has a better chin?
Terry Norris has to have had the worst chin of any top level fighter I've ever seen. He had the ability to box circles around guys but choose to bang with guys. He lost muti-million $$ paydays with Chavez & De la Hoya becasue of it.
Chico Corrales
Tommy Hearns
Tito Trinidad
Terry Norris
How did I forget Wlad Klitshcko
Lennox did not have a weak chin, anyone who could take the shots he did off Vitali has a good chin.
I don't think RJJ has a glass jaw, just a fairly average chin, not good or bad.
The only top-level fighters with really weak chins IMO are Norris, Hearns & Wlad
Trinidad like Corrales was only really KO'd once, and that in Corrales case was against Castillo, the Mayweather TKO and Casamayor TKO especially were basically cause of damage done, he wasn't SERIOUSLY hurt against Floyd
but Trinidad was dropped a hell of a lot of times
Campas
Carr
Vargas
Hopkins
Mayorga
Jones Jr
all dropped him, and i know there are more, just can't think of em
Corrales got beaten from pillar to post in the Mayweather fight IMO. His corner did the right thing stopping it, the guy had an ATG heart, which is why he kept getting back up, but you've got to stop those guys for their own good sometimes. I don't think Trinidad's chin was that bad, although I think it was a tad on the weak side
oh i agree that Mayweather put a beating on Corrales, but he was never really out of it if you get what i mean, he wasn't knocked silly, and his chin wasn't as bad as some think, the shots he took throughout the first Castillo fight are testament to this, especially considering that Castillo was a banger at 135, the kd's in the final round of the fight were hard shots, and then the way he came back is legend, his chin was a bit shakey but not complete garbage just like Trinidad's IMO
Well i don't count the Roy Jones Jr fight, i don't know why you would either to be honest bro. I've seen all of those fights you mentioned, and i think the Mayorga, Campas, knockdowns were flash knockdowns. The Carr, Vargas, knockdowns were more heavy knockdowns. And the Hopkins one was after he got beat up for 11 rounds,
But i think out of all the ones there, only really one of those knockdowns affected him. And that was the Vargas knockdown, and obviously the Hopkins one. He was also knocked down by David Reid and a few other times early in his career. But again i don't feel he was hurt by any of them. I don't think Felix Trinidad's chin was that bad to be honest.
I think that he was the kind of fighter, that took a few rounds to get going and warmed up. Which is why he was floored early and not late on, infact i think he was only floored three times after the 6th round, twice by Roy Jones, which i don't count. Because that was at Light Heavyweight, and Felix Trinidad was badly ring rusty. And the only other time was against Bernard Hopkins, after taking a sustained beating.
