I'm surprised to see no one put up a thread about it yet. Lacy took quite a beating. Roy took the showboating too far IMO but he really had a great performance tonight. Even one of the announcers said he hope Roy would get caught with a solid punch so he would get back to business.

As a big RJJ fan i loved every minute of it, too me there was flashes of the old RJJ again. At the end of the 5th round, he threw like a 20 punch combo. I haven't seen him do anything like that in years.

His workrate was better than i've seen it in awhile, he was using the jab more something i haven't seen since the Vinny Pazienza fight. And he was going to the body very well.

And he was talking to the crowd, while avoiding punches just unreal. I can't believe anyone picked Jeff Lacy over RJJ. Yes RJJ is past his prime and he has been for years.

But Jeff Lacy has been going life and death, with fighters like Otis Griffin for crying out loud. He has literally been reduced to journeyman status, and i've been saying this for ages he should just retire.

He doesn't even seem to have power anymore either, he had no sting on his punches at all tonight. RJJ at one point looked at the crowd and let Jeff Lacy hit him with his best left hook, and it done nothing at all.

Jeff Lacy is well and truly finished, and he should retire before he gets damaged permantely. He took a real beating tonight, and he's lucky RJJ was just having a good time in there and let Jeff Lacy off the hook, when he could of finished him off plenty of times.

Lastly i would like to see RJJ retire on a good performance, but he probably won't. And he will go after a big fight over in Australia against Danny Green, a fight i think he will win.

Based on a poorer man's version of RJJ aka Anthony Mundine. Handling Danny Green quite comfortably, overall good performance from RJJ he beat Jeff Lacy just as bad as Joe Calzaghe did.

And this fight reminded me why RJJ is one of my favorite fighters.

The fight meant very little IMO. Jones is no longer a relevant figure (in terms of meaningful fights) in boxing. He's still very popular and he'll make a fair bit of cash by extending his career for a few years, but that's about it. I still think he's a brutal KO waiting to happen.

He looked great against Lacy though (for whatever that's worth), no denying that. I find the showboating ridiculous, some (maybe most) people seem to like it though.

I don't think Green is a walkover for Jones, he's a much tougher ask than Sheika or Lacy.

It will largely dpend on what Danny Green turns up. If its Green the boxer, then Jones will have a field day with him, but if he lets his hands go and fights aggressively like his first fight with Beyer, he could blow Jones out inside 3 rounds.

Jones looked great tonight, and against Sheika, but they are both completely shot opponents.

Green is not shot by a long way. It's a risky fight for Jones and he should get props if he wins it.

I've always liked Danny Green though, he's a tough honest pro and is capable of knocking anybody out.

A couple of years ago I picked him as the man most likely to be a contender in the light heavyweight division to challenge Dawson, after everyone else ruled Diaconu was a dead cert to be that guy.

Green then won a world title and annoyingly retired, but now he's back and I think he has a chance to beat Roy Jones, as long as he's aggressive enough.

That's not saying all that much these days. His power alone will make for an interesting fight, but Jones has the ability to comprehensively outbox him. However, he's got to stop laying on the ropes like he does or it is going to come back to haunt him in a big way.

Yeah man, this is one of those times that I couldnt be happier that I was wrong. I dont want to read too much into this win. It was a great performance. Does it mean he can handle the Chad Dawson-Glen Johnson winner? Probably not, though thats not to say he cant. I wouldnt get too excited about him fighting Green just yet...B-Hop may be the next logical choice and hes been quiet about his plans as of late.

personally, the showboating was WAY too much. And i agree with ICB that Lacy's power has gone, although it would help if he could land occasionaly. Disagree with you though ICB when you say he beat lacy as comfortably as calzaghe did. Calzaghe landed far more, and was hit with less, also the context of the fights has to be taken into account

I don't really care about the showboating but I still laugh at all the Roy fans who were so upset about Calzaghe's taunting.

Calzaghe showing him up at his own game was a thing of beauty.

Considering where Jones was,its a good win but you cant read alot into it in the long term.I thought a shot up Lacy would still bull him around and make him work his legs, rough him up and tire him out but sounds like Lacy was the far more shot of the two.You cannot reinvent or rebirth a fighter of Jones age and wear and tear, but you can match him very smart. How much time would you say was spent along the ropes? Did he actually say hes going back to 170 after taking care of green... talking about Klitschkos Was his tounge in cheek because that is fooking crazy talk.He has no time machine and should think about walking away with his head up.Fact that he's aiming for Green says alot

i think jones has still got alot to offer boxing, ok he dominated a flat footed one dimensional lacy, but i think if he chooses his fights carefully(which is what alot of prime cats do today anyway) i think he can write another chapter in the history of roy ones jr, theres no denying hes still got one of the sickest skill sets out there, i think he can beat alot of top fighters out there still, no question

ha one thing at least we agree on.

Watching Jones taunt the hapless and overmatched Lacy last night I did get some satisfaction remembering back to Calzaghe sticking his face inside Jones' guard and smiling at him before pummeling him with multiple punch combinations.

At the time i really didn't enjoy seeing JC taunt Jones in the way he did, But after last night i suddenly felt good about it!
