Default New Mayweather Interview; Calls Emmanuel Steward an "Uncle Tom"

This whole interview's a bit odd to me, maybe he's just trying to get more publicity. A bit woe is me, why am I not a bigger star, look anyone that acts like he wouldn't be a bigger star if he was white is out to lunch but biggest sports star in the country, LOL, its a niche sport Floyd. Anyway I don't get too riled about what boxer's say in interviews but he's obviously pissed at Emmanuel for criticizing him on HBO and just thought hmm what is the worst thing I can call him. Just kind of mindless.

There is of course no doubt he'd be a bigger star in his home country if he was from some other places, boxing just isn't that big here.

Oh I was reaching for the kleenex on the 'No one ever says anything bad about Oscar' .He is way to backwards thinking for a guy about to face one of the ...biggest challenges in his new career. He's a huge cross over star,I just read he had WWE's Triple H in his ringwalk?

Now I don't know but isn't that a major slur for one black man to call another . People would like him if he wasn't such a cock !!

I for one am white, and it never enters my thoughts about the colour of an athlete or entertainer , but now that Floyd raises the issue I would be hard pushed to list 1 or 2 that are white that are in my top 10.

I couldn't care less what colour he is. A dick is a dick regardless of what colour it is. Mayweather has a personality that I just cannot warm to. He comes across as a petulant child far too often and it grates. I respect what he has achieved as a fighter, but I have little respect for the way he presents himself. I'm sure he has his good moments, but he doesn't show it very often.

And I always say negative things about Delahoya too. And Manny Pac. And Amir Khan. They are all different colours, I wish fighters would leave the race thing alone TBH. I'm sure there is an element of that in the mindset of some people, but I am solely motivated by two things a) How they fight and b) How they present themselves. Skin colour is irrelevant and needn't be brought up.

Actually, I don't dislike Manny Pac at all. But I am critical of him, I guess its because he always goes against fighters who I like more. He comes across fairly well and is an exciting fighter. I don't like the others though.

Mayweather might think Steward is an Uncle Tom, but the whole world thinks Mayweather is a cnut.
He whinges about the fact that he isnt popular but he seems to have no idea that the shite he spouts makes people hate him.

I think thats reversed. He'd be a bigger star if he was from a country that doesn't turn out a lot of boxers that make it at a big level.

Boxers come out of the US all the time so it's gonna be hard to find a fighter that has the entire USA behind them unless you are someone like Joe Louis.

Hence why some fighters have an entire country following because a big boxing star from there is one and a million.

I don't know why people even keep paying attention to what PBF says. Excellent boxer but he just doesn't think before he speaks. Ever.

    ....let's go Marquez!

Floyd had every opportunity to be America's Sweetheart like Ray Leonard, RJJ, Oscar, and Shane Mosley before him but he took the low road and wanted to wear the black hat and now he's apparently disappointed because he's unable to shake that off of his image.

I have no idea why he would lash out at Manny Steward though that's completely irrational.

Hey Floyd, Kanye West called, he wants his act back. Nobody can doubt Floyd's talent but on the same token no one can doubt that he's a world class prick either

The first and foremost reason why he's not a superstar that transcends all sports is because he's a complete cnut!!

That said does he have a point about he'd be bigger if he was white?

I genuinely (perhaps naively) think it makes no difference to us in the UK, dare I say it but a I feel we're a little more liberal than the US??!!

Stateside though race seems more of an issue. Do any of our US posters feel that should PBF have been white he would've been more of a household name?

It has been made to a slur, because those that usually throw it out have never read the book. So therefore simple distortion about the perception of the character from the book overtime has made it into a slur. Mostly amongst low-brows like Floyd. Floyd didn't really say why he was calling Manny an uncle tom he probably just heard his uncle roger say it then repeated it. That's the thing when you're an idiot you can blurt out dumb shit all day and never have to explain your reasoning.
