Joe Calzaghe may have retired the undefeated super middleweight and light heavyweight champion but it seems that his footwork on the dance floor doesn’t match up to that in the ring.

This weekend saw the start of BBC‘s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and Joe made his debut alongside professional dancer and blonde beauty Kristina Rihanoff.

“I never really danced before,” stated the Welsh Boxer, “so I was pretty nervous taking this up - probably more nervous than when I step in to the ring for a fight!

"Outside the ring I’m pretty relaxed - a bit sensitive sometimes,” he laughs. “When I fight, obviously my ‘colour’ is black, so I want to stay away from pink - I already told them that. No pink for me!”

Stepping out in dark purple waistcoat, trousers, shirt and tie - Joe danced the Tango. Looking a little stiff-legged, Joe didn’t seem altoge... Full Boxing Article here...

when will people realise that calzaghe is a chancer! with respect to other bloggers, the only people who big him up are guys in the UK, not all may i add, there are plenty of UK guys who share my opinion. The bottom line is; if your anyway good, the americans seek you out. If your a chancer, the americans see through you and consequently dont come knocking on your door. After 5,10,15 defences, the guys across the pond didnt come battering down his door. That tells a story in itself. dont get me wrong, he comes across a nice guy and talented no doubt, but an all-time great? There are guys who werent even champions who would have eaten him for breakfast. Bobby watts, Willie munroe to name a few. Even Eubank pre Watson would have done enough and hes another WBO (world british organisation) 'champ'

There are 2 things I have learned with a certainty about our commander and chief, Saddo, since I have been here:

    1. He is a fair and thoughtful admin
    2. He watches some seriously garbage tv shows

Yes it does. It tells you that they wanted no part of him - but he was glad to beat up Omar Sheika, Byron Mitchell, Charles Brewer and Jeff Lacy when they made the trip and he was happy to travel over to beat up Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins for you

As for his dancing - he is horrendous

So you get atleast a top 5 guy in your division at anytime who's defended one of the main titles 10,15 times... he's not real... he's a 'chancer', if you were confident that you could beat him and he was nothing then why wouldn't you fight him?

With some of the nobodys that Jones etc padded their record with are you honestly telling me that travelling to a guys backyard (or even asking him over) who is an established reigning champion (and some how an easy win) wouldn't make sense?

No question, your right. A lot do have padded records but Calzaghe ripped the arse clean out of it. You have reaffirmed by belief that only the UK big him up. Yes he beat Jones and Hopkins but you also fail to mention that it was a washed up jones and a 40plus hopkins. I have seen with my own eyes Calzaghe saying that jones was finished 4 or 5yrs ago and then within weeks when he signed to fight him saying that jones was still a force!!! You may be taken in with that but im certainly not. Thats nothing short of insulting peoples intelligence by asking them to fork out to see that. As for Lacy,do you honestly think lacy was good? Jones made a fool of him a few weeks back. Won every round and was talking to the crowd too. Thats how good lacy is. Why didnt JC fight jones 7 or 8yrs ago? Why didnt he fight Hopkins 7 or 8yrs ago? I'll tell you why, because he was too busy 'defending' against 3rd rate fighters and taking the easy money which, truthfully, i dont blame him for doing. The bottom line is to get in,get your money and get out without being hurt and fair play to him, thats what he done. But if you go down that route of constant soft defences, you cannot claim to be an alltime great. Im sure you'll agree with me on that at least. Look, its just my opinion and thats what this is all about. Im sure you have a different one and thats why we love this sport.

Mate - we've done this a thousand time on here before.

Jones was shot to bits NOBODY disputes that! Hopkins being 40+ means fuck all when arguably all of his best performances/victories have come at 40+ De La Hoya, Tarver, Wright, Pavlik. Who did he beat before he was 40 apart from Journeyman Johnson and WelterWeight Tito? Did Hopkins look old against Pavlik (a fight that took place after the Calzaghe fight)? I think Hopkins has arguably never looked better. That version of Hopkins that fought Pavlik, beats any version of Hopkins imo.

As for padded records, who did RJJ fight in his reign at Light Heavy and who did Hopkins fight in his reign at Middle. I would say Jones' resume at that time is marginally better than Calzaghe's, but Hopkins is not even as good. Syd Vanderpool and Glen Johnson in 10 years give me a break. Don't get me wrong Jones and Hopkins are both better P4P prime for prime than Calzaghe imo, but your argument is crap. I am as objective as they come, but Calzaghe fought the best that he could. Who did he fail to fight during his 11 year reign that was operating at SMW? I tell you who - Sven Ottke and that's it. He fought the best of the rest that were available in that division at that time. Not his fault the division was weak

But more importantly, can he do on the UK version better than Evander did on the stateside equivalent. I reckon he gets to the last five or six on sympathy and popularity, after that, he gets the boot.

what the fuck are you talking about?

All I said that your theory that American boxers didn't want to come over to fight him because they saw through him is a stupid one... That's the issue... I appreciate the tirade but if you're not even talking in relation to what I said then don't quote me.

I'll repeat: if Calzaghe was see through and a masquarader then he wouldn't have been 'over looked', quite the opposite: if he was legit and the top guys knew they could beat him then he would of had people knocking on his door wanting to get credit for traveling and beating a reigning champion.

Don't act like the top Americans at the time weren't taking easy fights and didn't want to fight Calzaghe because they only wanted to fight the best elite fighters - you and me both know that for every top fighter Jones/hopkins/toney fought that there would be at least one padded fighter to guy with it, they were pretty keen to fight easy fights that the public hadn't even heard of but for some reason they didn't want to fight another reigning champ?

Sure Calzaghe has also fought his share of nobodies too, but to say that he was avoided because guys who were happy to fight the likes of Ricky Stackhouse, Larry Prather, steve frank etc (all of them also known as 'who?') would rather fight those guys than get credit for beating a ranked, reigning, undefeated belt holder that supposably wasn't on their level (ie: a win in the bank) is just stupid.

prime for prime I think that hopkins and jones are better than calzaghe... but the logic you're using for why top americans didn't want to fight him is just stupid.

I'm sure you were one of the 0.001% saying that before the fight aswell Coz before the fight he was the 'Middle Weight Mike Tyson' and was plastered over every advertsing hoarding and all over Superbowl as the next GREAT boxer. But he lost to a british guy, so he must always have been sh1t! It couldn't possibly be that he was just beaten by the better man and took a beating that his confidence never recovered from. Hindsight is a wonderful thing innit. Sure he always had limitations but the Lacy that fought Jones was not the same man that fought Robin Reid.
