    Default Whatever Happened to Povetkin

    Evening fella's,

I'm new here and thought I'd post an article straight away.

I was thinkin earlier about Alexander Povetkin and what's happened to him?

A few years back everyone was raving about him and saying he was going to be the future of heavyweight boxing!

I seem to recall he was Wlads mandatory for the IBF title, but the fight never went ahead. I believe Povetkin pulled out citing injury.

But what has he done since? He has stayed active, but fighting some stiffs! Is he not hungry for his title shot?

Seems he's taking backwards steps allowing others to try their hand at the K bro's, while he's staying busy and keeping his 0 intact.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on Povetkin, and if anyone could shed some light on his future ambitons?

Teddy Atlas is training him right now and on yesterday's FNF he mentioned that they want one more fight before going for a shot at Wlad. His wins over Estrada, Sykes and Chambers are pretty good wins, but at 30 years old, I have no idea why they want to wait longer. His camp must feel there is still some learning to do, before going for Wladdy.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Yeah. We should see him get his title shot against Wlad this summer.

He was the mandatory in Dec 2008, but suffered some serious injury to one of his legs. Wlad got permission to fight Hasim Rahman, and have it count as the mandatory.

Cheers for the replies! Does anyone think he could cause Wlad any problems? He seems to have heart, I'd hope he can test Wlad more than most of the recent heavies who have no plan B when they can't get through the jab!

I think he has a good chance, because he stays busy. With Wlad you got to rush him, make it messy (Sanders, Brewster), you cant give him time to think.

Yeah, Wlad also has those suspect whiskers too! Vitali is looking sluggish these days also. Could their time be up sooner rather than later??

He's got good skills but he's never really fought a big time puncher and the way he took the shot Eddie Chambers ripped him with makes me question his ability to take a punch and just damage in general. Povetkin has a big heart though, he could have easily given up in the Chambers fight but he showed his heart late....too bad Wladimir won't allow for him to pressure him without Povetkin taking punishment.

I for one would like to see Povetkin vs Boytsov I think that is a fight of the year candidate waiting to happen!!! 2 smallish heavyweights that are busy fighters and have solid offense.

Vitali may soon retire, he's not got as much power as he used to have. Wladimir on the other hand is just hitting his stride, he's got 8-12 more fights in him depending on length of layoffs/injuries/and whether or not he loses any of them. In years I think Wlad could last 4-6 more years at the top of the division. In each fight he gets more relaxed, he executes his gameplan better and better and unless he gets a really game challenger he's not going to lose.
