Thread: Best boxers from Michigan

Hey can you guys help me out? I'm trying to put together a list of all time greats from Michigan and so far only four names jump out at me.

Tommy Hearns
Joe Louis
James Toney
Floyd Mayweather Jr

The only Michigan great I can think of that's not on your list is Kenny Lane.

Chris Byrd was one of the best heavyweights to come from there, him and James Toney

You could count Sugar Ray Robinson, he was born there.

Sugar Ray Robinson was born in Georgia and Joe Louis was born in Alabama...it's kind of like saying Joe Frazier is "from" Philadelphia (he was born in South Carolina).

I can hit Michigan with a rock from my front yard on a good day. A bad day, maybe just take out one of the yooper snow mobile'ers. Not sure whats happening in Detroit, expected a lot more competition from there. They sure have the demographics for a strong base of fighters.

ahaha :P Well he is right. But yeah I put Louis up there because he was raised here and has an ARENA named after him! So he has at least some form of connection to the state
